Trying to find 1980's UBoat toy

In the early 1980's my Dad bought me a battery operated UBoat sub about 40cm long. It wasn't radio controlled but it had some kind of mechanism that allowed it to dive and surface automatically. I don't remember exactly how it worked but I do remember thinking it was the coolest toy ever! I think the motor and drive unit were in a pod that attached to the bottom of the model.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

I'd love to find one of these things again.

I don't think that's the one.
It definitely wasn't a kit, it was fully assembled and ready to run. I think there was some kind of screw cap on the deck which you took off to place the battery in.

Maybe it wasn't a UBoat but just looked a bit like one.

Found it!

It's called the Sea Raider U-8.
That explains why I thought it was a U boat when I was a kid!
I clearly remember playing with this all the time on summer holidays and getting very upset when it disappeared without a trace.

Quite the collectors item now and go for a lot more money than back in the 80's.
