$16.99 DIATONE QAV250 with g10 Cover - Review

From Multirotors.cn (Diatone):

QAV 250 Quadcopter Frame 250mm
This QAV 250 is built from ultra durable and high quality materials. The one-piece main frame is ultra durable polyamide nylon while the special dismountable frame is constructed from high quality glass fiber.

This mini-sized quadcopter is innovated from FPV 250 and it also measures in at a mere 250mm. We add a symmetric glass fiber frame on and in the center bay which ensures the motors/ESCs work equally hard and the Flight Controller can apply consistent power to level the frame.

The area for flight controller and FPV equipment is large and completely covered by a Flight Controller cover. The FC cover also doubles as an optional battery tray. The Li-Po can be moved across a large area of the frame to optimize the CG. This enables flying with different equipment and number of cameras.

Features:
Built from ultra durable polyamide nylon and high quality glass fiber.
One-piece nylon construction for durability.
The special dismountable glass fiber frame.
Larger mounting spaces.
Wide range of motor and power potions.

Specs:
Width:250mm
Height:95mm
Weight:160g(without electronics)
Motor Mount Bolt Holes:16/19mm
Required:

4 x Motors 1506~2208
4 x 10~15 Amp ESC
4 x 5030~5045 Prop (2CW & 2CCW)
1 x Multi-Rotor Control Board (Recommend KK2.1)
1 x 800~1300mAh 7.4~11.1V (2s or 3s) Lipoly battery

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Initial Thoughts:

This frame is identical to the a250/fpv250 that is currently being sold for about $10. The new g10 cover is made from 1.5mm material and all edges are smooth. This new cover allows much more space for fpv equipment and even has a protective plate for your camera. It fits on to your preexisting fpv250 frames with no modifications and can be bought separately from Rc-Drones.3dcartstores.com. All screws and standoffs are made from high quality aluminum and I haven't stripped any yet. Only a screw driver with a hex head (some flat screw driver heads may also work) is required to build it, and it only takes about 10 minutes to build. The screws are M3 and the standoffs are 37mm long. The arms of the quad flex very little but have tremendous strength. The legs and nylon cover are flexible yet strong, and the legs are pressure-fit into slots under the motor mounts (after a while they become loose, but a drop of glue does the trick).

Like:

-Both the nylon and the g10 covers are included in the QAV250 kit

-The 1.5mm g10 is strong, light, and flexible

-Standoffs are taller than most other standoffs included with other frames so there is more space.

-Unbeatable price

-Great customer support from Sue and Danny

-More durable than similarly priced wooden frames and even some $100+ frames

-Much more space for fpv equipment than the fpv250

-Legs are removable

-Vented arms (no hot escs or motors)

-Great for fpv racing

-Can hold all 45x45mm flight controllers like the kk2

-It's a good first build for those graduating from brushed multicopters

-Aluminum hardware (doesn't break like nylon hardware)

-The one-piece main frame is made from ultra durable polyamide nylon

-Easy and quick to assemble

-The covers and legs can be removed and reinstalled as you like

-Can be used with the cheap and easy to find 5030 props (gemfan, hq,and other brands)

-Weighs 110g without the carbon add on and 160g with it

*NOTE: only 5030s will fit with g10 cover, with nylon cover larger props can be used

Dislike:

-No 36x36mm flight controller mount (foam tape can fix this)

-No 12mm motor mount for RCX 1804 motors (BUT DIATONE IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON CREATING ADAPTERS!!!)

-Nylon cover can use thicker screws

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Building Instructions:

1. Flip the frame upside down and push the silver-colored washers into the outer hexagon shaped openings closest to the center of the frame but farthest away from each other.

2. Put a screw into each of the washers.

3. Turn the frame right side up and place one of the 2 smaller identical pieces of g10 over each of the plastic protrusions on the front and back of the frame so that the screws go through the designated holes in the g10.

4. Secure these 4 screws using 4 standoffs.

5. Push the camera protecting plate into the appropriate slots in the front of the g10 plate at the front of your quadcopter.

6. Secure the remaining standoffs with screws in the 2 outer corners of each g10 plate.

7. Align the longer g10 top plate with the 8 standoffs and secure it with screws.

8. Push one landing skid into the bottom of each motor mount (using the irregularly shaped holes)

*If using the RCX 1804 motors without adapters, you will need to shave down the motor mounts on the frame using a drill or dremel.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This frame can be bought for $9.99 with the nylon cover or $16.99 with both the g10/fiberglass cover and the nylon cover at:

Not trying to be mean but I will never understand the point of starting a thread with nothing in it? I don't understand what benefit this has over just posting the review when you are ready to post it? All you've done is make 89 people look at a thread that has no point yet.

Look forward to the review anyway

The reason is because the frame is going to be available soon and I didn't want the thread name to be taken since I already did a lot of work on my review
Hope you like it when I post it

I'm confused... how is this different than the Lumenier QAV250? Isn't the QAV250 a model that Lumenier designed and produced?

Have you guys bothered to look at the 2 frames and compare?
They are nothing alike.
Not even close to the same shape.
The Diatone QAV250 is a perfect X with a cage attached.
The lumineer QAV250 is more like an H frame.

Yes we received our shipment today and will ship all pre-orders Fri USPS Priority mail and E-mail a tracking number.

Lol it's different, it's like hobbyking's fpv250 but it has a g10 addition for the cover. Here is a quick pic.
