March 29, 2014 Overlook Sailport Fly-In

Beautiful blue skies and light winds greeted us at the edge of White Rock canyon this morning for our 2014 Inaugural Glider Fly-In at Overlook Sailport.

Five members (Ross, Mark, Randy, Tom and Marc) and two local renegade pilots (Adam and Buck) took advantage of the conditions until about noon when the winds started to increase significantly.

No maidens today. But there was one well documented canyon recovery mission detailed below.

Marc's crashed Chrysalis recovery

In perfectly calm skies, Mark and I somehow found ourselves sharing the same little piece of airspace. His wing hit my tail and tore off one of my v-tails. I had a little yaw control but no pitch control so into the canyon I went.

Mark landed with minor and repairable damage to one wingtip.

Local renegade pilot and Friend of the Club (FOTC) Adam volunteered for the recovery mission. The wing (it was so pretty!) was a total loss. But Adam was able to recover all the electronics.

Here's the video documenting the recovery mission:
