Correct. You'll see a difference on the ground in the amount of control movement based on the bank angle limits (bigger limits will create more deflection) and the heading hold rate (higher rate will create more deflection).

hi all. Question that may not fit in this thread, but maybe someone can guide me in the right direction. Eflite Havoc with SAFE. When in safe mode on the ground, I see the elevators go up. Back down when I flip the switch to non safe mode. I want this to stop. I want the same level flight with safe on as when I flip safe off.
How can I do this? I do have the programming cable for the receiver, but not sure what to do. Help Thanks |

Horizon puts a THR>ELE mix into SAFE mode, so that's what's probably moving the elevator. The way the mix is defined, it's adding value to elevator even when the throttle stick is at zero.
So don't worry - just because you see the elevator move when you flip the flight mode switch, that's not a sign that something is wrong. It may not fly perfectly level though at low speed because of that mix, but the people that designed the plane feel it would be easier to fly they way they set it up. There's probably a mix at high throttle, too. Before worrying about tweaking the setup, fly it the way it it's set up out of the box. If you try it and find you don't like it, you can always change it. |

It will reduce the up elevator input as you raise the nose. Keeping it on its ventral fins, take it in and out of SAFE...you'll see no up elevator input. using a pot to control the gain
Is it possible to use a pot on the TX to control the gyro gain, i.e. instead of 100, 0, -100 to 100~-100
If so, is there a post about how that might be done. This question for both 636 or 636a |

From my understand, it' seems to be a way to determine, how much, (another gain) at what stick position, more like expo acts. Rate is stabilation gain to me and heading is is like HH for a heli and how much gain you have for that. I don't know if I"m in the right direction or not. I'm more use to a standard gyro with just a gain on each axis. I can see that there are three switch positions for fixed, three settings, for each axis. Perhaps some of this ties back to how SAFE would respond to those settings. I have played with the "A" model RX but not with basic all model 636. I was surprised to see the Heading adjustment in SPS Guess that's "HH" gain. |

Fms t-28 v4
Don't know if this question previously posted, but can a SAFE select receiver off of a Carbon Z T-28 be used in a FMS T-28V4? I have an Opportunity to acquire one, and wondering if it can be done without obtaining computer programming degree.

For the most part a Safe Select receiver off of anything can be used on anything. The programming tools are very powerful. And well documented. Just expect to do a little reading and spend some time playing with the hardware on the bench before committing to a maiden. And don't be expecting plug and play. There's a learning curve here. Some can do it in a day. Many take a bit longer. Plenty of help on this thread.

One difference between the UMX receivers and the AR636 is the ability to set rates, expo, travel, subtrim etc in the RX itself while leaving the TX settings all at defaults. I believe Andy Kunz once said this design was the result of an upper level marketing decision trying to allow people with lower level TX's to have access to more advanced RX functions (and that decision has clearly been revisited/revised with the newer RX's and forward programming now available on Spektrum TX's that can run the current airware).
When I first started learning/exploring AR636's I didn't play with all these settings but did observe that if DR and expo settings are only made in the RX via SPS that priority phases out the gain strictly and linearly on the raw stick position regardless of the other values. On the other hand, if you don't set DR in the RX at all, but only in the TX, then things are as mejmea described for the UMX receivers where lower rates will result in only using the portion of the priority curve up to the max processed stick position allowed by the TX selected rate. Setting expo in the TX vs the RX has a bit different effect. As an example, assuming priority is set to phase out at 100% stick movement and positive expo in the RX, a 25% movement of the stick will phase out 25% of the gain but at a surface movement of something less than 25%. If the expo is set in the TX instead, then the RX only knows of a little stick movement and will phase out less than 25% of the gain for the same surface movement. By the time you have both DR and expo going in the TX it gets more complicated to figure out exactly what priority is doing. Bottom line is if you care exactly what the priority is doing, set things up in the RX but if you're a rather insensitive pilot like me (just ask my wife ), I'm not sure you'll really notice a difference if you set things up in the TX instead (and I personally find that easier to do). |
