The 2808/24 looks really good for a plane of that size/weight.

doug the 2212/26 or the 2212/34 with 3S lipoly's and an 11x3.8/11x4.7 on the /26 or a 12x3.8/12x6 on the /34,
either of these will give you 1.5:1+ power to weight on a 16-18oz 44" extra

I agree with Harry either of the 2212 series with a 3s pack is going to give you ample performance and save you some weight. I was driving a 17.5 oz Mamba with a 10x8 carbon and performance was very good for 3d stuff, but the Mamba is a pattern jobby so I swithed it out for something with more speed. Anyway the 3d style flying of kinda bump and grind is right up the alley of these little mighty motors. I am flying a Shockie copy outa of fan fold at 11.5 oz and get 16 minute flights from a 3s pack of 830tps. Adding a few inches of foam is not going to effect the weight that drastically and I wouldn't be surprised if it came out a less than 15oz with the right cells and 2212 motor. BTW mine is the 2212/34. 11x4.7 sf, 3A average flight current. 7.5A static.

Since I like <2:1 thrust to weight ratio IŽd still go for the 2808/24. I thought about the 2212/34 too and IŽm usually very conserned about weight, but since this is a pure outdoor plane (at least the 44 incher), IŽd rather go for more power. The 2808/24 is almost exactly the same weight as a B20-15L 4:1.

IŽd rather save weight on the battery with the new cells (Kokam 1500 or the upcoming offerings from Etec).

I agree with Eric, The 2212/26 is a sweet motor on the 36" planes, but for a true high preformance plane in the 44" range a larger motor is needed.
IF you go back down to 36" the Axis are great motors with plnety of power for the 13 oz planes. >2-1

I dont know about the larger Axis, but a Himaxx 2025 is one great motor at a bargain price. 40 ozs thrust on a 6.6 GB. in a 18 ozs airframe is just to dang much fun.

Keep us posted on your larger Axi if you choose to use it.

I have a 2808/24 in a 19oz Attitude, and it flys it really well (greater than 2:1). I've read that several people are using the 2808/24 as a b20 15L replacement.

Hey Doug,

I'll have to agree with fwilly and GW... The Axi 2212 series is great on the 36" planes, but the power to wt. wouldn't be there on the 44" Extra. I've got an Axi 2212/26 and it isn't on my 44" Extra for that very reason.

I've never run the 28xx series, but that's what I'd be looking at in the Axi lineup. GW is right on with the 2025/GWS 6.6:1 setup. I just got a Lehner setup that will put out 55+ onces of thrust, but that's a high end setup and definately overkill for the 44" Extra. The Lehner is going on something else.

I realy like my Hacker B20-15L, although it is pushing the motor and cells bit on the 11x4.7 APC prop.
