If you're flying with higher speeds in mind and opt to soup up the Kunai for better performance that it is fully capable of for very little then dead weight in keeping a useless rudder is keeping you from increasing your skills, thus equally making you a worse pilot. To each his own.

Kunai with DX6 settings or settings file...?
Hi everyone...
I've been through over 100 of these great posts hoping to glean some Kunai settings recommendations without much success and so asking at the risk of repetition... I've swapped out the OEM ESC with an Avian 30A (size required bottom mount, heavier) and installed a heat shrink wrapped AR637T (it is tight!) - the only battery that now fits is an 850 G2 Spektrum which is fine as I am hoping to use it more as a motor glider. Surface throws are set to minimum and I am dabbling with some expo on DX6 sticks. AS3X is working however I have yet to get SAFE/panic set up or feel confident about the 5 default flight modes, with some dead stick trim flights and a couple of powered runs... Any thoughts much appreciated with many thanks... |

I am very happy with an 850 mah 3S since it keeps it as light as possible and as you say, it is a tight squeeze.
I don't have Spek gear so can comment on SAFE, but my guess is a panic mode might not do much good if you get too slow in a turn and tip stall this plane, better to lower the nose and add power. You might want to use some tape to make sure the canopy stays on or you may wind up losing it. I use black electrical tape. Also, the carbon fiber pin in the wing is a weak link because the balsa is so soft. I think peeling back a tiny bit of covering and wicking in CA around the pin to harden the balsa helps but there are other measures mentioned in this thread somewhere. Good luck, have fun! |

Finally got some build time in and the motor on my replacement plane is bad. The only part I re-used from the crashed one was the ESC, so my initial thought was that it took a hit even though there was no obvious damage. I tested with another motor (which won't fit Kunai) and it worked fine.
I was reluctant to re-use my original since the plane nosed in like an arrow. Tower responded fast and said they're sending a replacement. Here's what it does in a riveting 7 second video.

Tossed a magnet is my best guess.

Maybe open it up to see if it is a loose magnet and then reglue it back place.
