THE NEW KK2.1 & KK2.1.5 FC Owners Thread

11/8/14 I am no longer using the kk2.1 as I have moved onto the Vector. The kk2.1 is a wonderful fc which flies excellent and is easy to field program and would use it again in a second but at this point i need a osd and rth.
--------------------------

This is the information thread for the new Hobby King KK2.1 & KK2.1.5

KK2.1

KK2.1.5 with built in polarity protection and a fused output for the included buzzer.

The only difference between the KK2.1 and the KK2.1.5 is that the KK2.1.5 has built in polarity protection and a fused output for the included buzzer.

Excellent Manual by Steveis, creator of the Firm Ware found below: STEVEIS MANUAL
Hobby KIng Manual:KK2.1 & KK2.1.5 Manual PDF
Quick Start Guide

RCGROUPS KK2 Thread
You can find many answers about installation and wiring at the original KK2 thread at RCGROUPS.The KK2 and KK2.1 & KK2.1.5 are installed and hooked up the same so the original KK2 thread has all the info you need to get started. The big difference is the Firm Ware.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tools for Flashing the Firmware. Be PATIENT when flashing, it can take up to 1 minute.
MAKE sure you use Firmware made for the KK2.1 & KK2.1.5!!!
USBasp Programmer For KK Flight Control BoardWorks Perfect
USBasp Programmer with 10 to 6 Pin Adapter Reported to work
6 PIN USBASP PROGRAMMER WITH CABLE
USBasp AVR Programming Device for flashing KK2.1

Using Lazyzero KKmulticopter Flash Tool Great software for flashing the KK2.1
A helpful tutorial on installing Firmware.
CPO Tricopter Build : Flash KK2.1 Firmware in Mac OSX and Windows using USBasp
Another USBaspFlashing Video
Flash KK2.0 KK2.1 1.6 Firmware Update Upgrade Using Arduino

I would hook up to the USBasp before installing and updating the FW and configuring before installing. You get all the parameters set, such as type, SL etc before installing in the frame, much easier.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIRMWARE for KK2.1 & KK2.1.5 ONLY!!
These are the current offerings of Firm Ware for the KK2.1. and KK2.1.5. This is the preferred FW and will fly great with stock settings. Thanks! to Steveis and RC911 for all there hard work!++++
It is recommended to replace the stock HK FW immediately.

Stevis Firmware> 1.17S1 as of 4/11/14
Much improved self level code that more accurately calculates which way is “up”. This improves switching to self level after aggressive flying and will improve the Camera Gimbal operation as the accuracy of the angles is now much better. The receiver interrupts no longer screw with the Self Level calculation

AVR Dude
I've just updated my KK2.1 firmware to 1.9S3.

This has improved voltage detection plus a few cosmetic changes.

I really don't recommend the hexTronic V1.6 code.

AVR Dude
After some testing by Senetor315 and rpmrpm and a lot of thinking and testing on my part, I have reverted back to a piece of original code that was in V1.6 which gives a crisper feel. P&I and SS settings are now back to 1.7S1 and 1.8S1.

Updated code V1.10 now available

thanks to bobepine for posting this!

"Here's what seems to fly excellent on my last build, CNC 355 aluminium frame with bang-for-your-bucks motors and well-balanced props. (These are tame settings, not acro settings-This is built for a customer)

PS: Steveis, you are the man! Thank you kindly.

Best,
Chris"

I assume this would be a good starter board correct? I have an APM on order as well, but I have seen these in smaller/cheaper setups.

16-16-16-90 You might want to start at lower than 16 as this flips fairly fast on my frame. 15 is a little too slow for me and 17 was a little too fast.

I also added 20% expo to Ail/Ele to smooth out the centre stick.

This was just a quick 5 min tune and still needs some fine tuning but it's working very well.
It may not be good for you though, you know, different frame and all, so take that into consideration.

Thank you. I was pleasantly surprised with the 2.99 shipping price. My past attempted orders have quoted huge shipping costs.

Qav400

I have 2 QAV400 with KK2's that fly exactly the same and I am replacing 1 with the new KK2.1. It took all of 5 minutes and I will now be going through the setup. Once ready I will do a flight comparison.

My flying style is all FPV, I always fly in manual and have never done a flip (at least not on purpose)
