Why donīt we fry our receivers when connecting battery connector wrong?

Today, we were testing receivers. Two times i screwed up and connected the battery pack wrong. Which means the negative lead goes to the signal output of the receiver.

So tell me, why are these two receivers still working perfectly fine?

The pinout on the connector was setup with the V+ on the center pin so that when IDIOTS screwup the don't fry the recievers.

And after that we flew our Pico-Sticks outside the guys house (small soccer field) under a street-light. Damn that was fun!
