Quick question on the Tx connections. I have the module connected to my Tx and powered by it. Now I need to connect it to an FTDI with VCC and GND connected? Can this FTDI be 5V with an Orange Rx 1W module?

Normally not, because the Orange 1W does actually works at 3.3V.

You can however connect them via 1k resistors on RX and TX lines and won't take any risk, or try to connect it directly and cross your fingers.

Thanks. And again making sure, I connect the FTDI 3.3V to the module while it is powered from the Tx? Won't it create a short?

It is blue, with a voltage spec of 3.4 volts:

Does it matter that they have different voltages?

Is one voltage better that another?

Which is best for ULRS mini boards?

Fwiw i really think you're over thinking the leds. Any of those should work fine. I used blue and green cause i have an ftdi chip that uses those colors and it really gets your attention.

Does the Sponge board have the capability to press a button to save the failsafe servo positions?

I know you're frustrated and have been working at ulrs a little while but i think it's definitely worth the effort.

It doesn't have a place on the board for it but you will only need the button on the transmitter. I am using a wolfbox as my tx and spongeboards as rx. I also use the gcs failsafe in mission planner to be safe, especially since i am relaying the control signal through an antenna tracker.

What kind of capacitors: Ceramic multi-layer, monolithic, ceramic disk, etc.?

I want the failsafe feature:

Flipflap, which ULRS mini boards support the failsafe button-push feature?

and,

Does the failsafe button push feature work with anything but a transmitter with 16 channels?

All boards do support the failsafe button and it works with any number of channels.

For the LEDs I'm using the blue ones but can only provide the link to my French provider (which is already on the site). Any other LED will work, but may require a different resistor to have a good luminosity (will depend on their color and precise type). 5 or 3 mm is a personal preference, I like to smaller ones. There are even larger LEDs.

The voltage of the LEDs isn't a critical factor : the important thing is the current that goes through them, and is controlled by the resistor. That's the adjustment factor.

Failsafe did not work with several sets of my Orange 1W modules that performed all other functions. Note that all of the HobbyKing hardware eventually failed on the bench and I was lucky to never make it into the air with it installed.

At the time we discussed trying the failsafe button technique with a transmitter that sends 16 channels instead of the eight that my Futaba transmitter sends. Since I did not have a 16-channel transmitter, we settled on the work-around of using the GCS_failsafe to trigger a RTL.

In my opinion the GCS_failsafe work-around is good enough for a test flight, but with that configuration we lose the option to continue with a mission despite a failsafe condition.

I'm putting together a list of parts for the Monkey Board with links to vendors. I hope to get feedback about better choices for parts.
