Some years ago, they made drivers that would (intentionally!) brick fake FTDI chips:
http://hackaday.com/2014/10/22/watch...ng-fake-chips/

Leaving users that didnt even know they were using a fake chip with a broken device. Driver update came automatically through windows update.

After getting a lot of flak for that back then, they did something similar again some months ago, this time they don't brick the chip but inject fake data into the serial stream:
http://hackaday.com/2016/02/01/ftdi-...e-chips-again/

I wouldn't give such a company a single cent. Sorry for being offtopic.

Well you may have to if you want to easily use FTDI cables with ULRS. And while I do not really approve of the way they go about telling the world about fakes, your outrage is maybe OTT. In the end their IP is being ripped off. I suspect that their efforts are probably counter-productive for them though, as the end user often has no idea about fake chips.

Hello,
I've been using OpenLRS on a new Wolfbox and decided to go with ULRS.
I just flashed both Wolfbox Tx and Rx. Both successfully.
Now, in order to get to the configuration do I have to have the module powered on the Tx and also connected with the FTDI?

When I plug in the Rx with 5v I do not get any lights. And when I connect the Tx with the FTDI (Outside the Tx) and use Ultimate LRS Control Center, it connects but clicking on change parameters does nothing nor shows any information on the ULRS Status.

I tried to find a video or a guide that would explain how to connect both Tx and Rx for initial configuration after flashing the firmware but had no luck.

I appreciate any advise.
Thanks!

Hi Zeekworld and welcome to the thread !

You'll only see the RX light up when it's communicating, until then the LEDs will stay off.

You'll find most information about the project and how to set it up here :

http://www.itluxembourg.lu/site/ultimate-lrs-2-0-beta/

For your question about saving parameters, I know it doesn't always work. Assuming that the firmware is already uploaded, it may take a few tries.

I'm uploading a new version this evening, so I hope it will solve this issue.

Yes, I just try to make it simple for users : as we've noticed issues with some non-FTDI cables, in case of doubt let's use a genuine FTDI cable and associated drivers.

It would be more difficult to provide a list of all the FTDI cable brands that work or not, especially as I don't plan to test them all

Users are free to experiment with different brands, but if a user asks for support and is using a monopole antenna and a clone FTDI cable the first advice will be to come to a 'reference' configuration to provide more effective support.

Thank you for your quick response!, I will wait for the new version and test the connectivity.
The message "This beta version is only for a limited period" is this normal or there is a paid version?

I'm not sure to understand all the different ways to achieve it, and would like at some point to make a comparative/summary table of the different options.

You know HopeRF, the manufacturer of RFM modules ?

I thought that they stopped their business because their website was not accessible.

But it seems rather that they forgot to renew their domain name, which expired on 30 Sep 2016...

It's normal, and there will be a paid stable version in December.

It's very reliable and especially fast for mavlink. The other advantage is that it's a full 1W bidirectional system.

Have a look at www.itluxembourg.lu/site and you'll find a lot of resources, user videos etc.

Aaaaaanyway, I'll see if I can get sometime this weekend and start testing.
Any tips regarding that specific board?

ULRS 2.32.c released

The new release is ready, as usual the release notes can be found here : http://www.itluxembourg.lu/site/ultimate-lrs-2-0-beta/

It's named 2.32.c because the firmware is untouched, only changes are in ULRS CC.

Most importantly, the new mavlink server feature is fully described here :

http://www.itluxembourg.lu/site/mavlink-server/

Enjoy !
