Latest flashlight

There it is, a pistol grip flashlight with consistent brightness, a reliable switch & reliable battery contacts. Such a thing would be ridiculously expensive to obtain commercially. It sucks 0.6A. Unfortunately, it only lasts 1 hour on battery. A buck converter would get only 2 hours.

It makes you think about how long those AAA flashlights can really go at full brightness. They spend most of their life at low brightness.

It was a big deal to fabricate, the mane issue being cooling the linear voltage regulator. A pistol grip is useful for running.

It's the latest in a long history of flashlights. The last of the 5 keychain flashlights from 2011 finally all died after 2 years.

The photo from Oct 2011, after a long run in which they were probably hand carried 5 miles home, would not be possible today. Their electrical contacts all corroded & their batteries all died in the following years. They left enough LEDs to brighten up the current flashlight, at the expense of more battery power.
