Sunnysky V2216 800KV Thrust Test

Bench Test of the Sunnysky V2216 800KV motor with 8 props on 3S & 4S.

Equipment used...
DIY thrust stand and scales
Eagle Tree data logger V3 inc RPM sensor
Hobbyking 30A Blue Series ESC - SimonK 2013-05-15 firmware
3S 9600mAh and 4S 12,000mAh lipo packs

Props...
1. APC 10x4.5MR
2. APC 10x5.5MR
3. APC 11x5.5E Thin Electric
4. Himodel FC 11x5.5 Hyper Drive (APC clone)
5. Carbon Fibre Graupner Style 11x5
6. Gemfan Carbon / Nylon 11x5
7. Gemfan Carbon / Nylon 10x5
8. Gemfan Carbon / Nylon 1045

Notes...
- The test was aimed at 4S, this motor could turn bigger props on 3S
- Lipos were fully charged so somewhat non standard voltages
- The APC 11x5.5E was the only prop balanced out of the packet. All others were OK, except the Gemfans which were very unbalanced.
- Comparing the APC11x5.5E and the plastic clone is very interesting. The difference can be heard in the video. Incredible 225 gram thrust difference between two props that look identical. APC all the way
- The APC 10x5.5MR is almost identical in performance to the 10x4.5MR. Small amount more performance but less efficient.
- The APC multirotor props have slightly less thrust than a slow fly but are more efficient, and are more rigid.
- The carbon high speed (Graupner style) prop was very quiet, efficient and punchy! It would absolutely rock on a higher KV 2216 version
- KV was measured around 770KV by a HK KV tester but the Eagle Tree figures worked out to 875-895KV. I don't know which is more accurate, I would assume the 770KV figure. The right number of poles was selected so go figure?
- The Eagle Tree thermometer was placed in the windings and too affected by air temp. A IR thermometer will be used next time. The comments are a better guide on temp.
- Doc files of the charts are attached

- 4S -

4S - Sunnysky V2216 800KV - Thrust Test (4 min 45 sec)

- 3S -

3S - Sunnysky V2216 800KV Thrust Test (4 min 43 sec)

All Session Comparison
The order of sessions in this chart is... Prop, 3S then 4S etc... The large RPM spikes are errors from the sensor.

I am building a speed quadcopter for FFF and will choose the APC 11x5.5E.
It is powerful, efficient and fast.
It is heavy though, notice it's spool down time and high acceleration current draws.
This prop is just too much for the motor on the bench in static air, hopefully in free air it will rock!
This copter is not for flips but it will be built for size and speed

Awesome work mate !

Thanks mate! Getting there hey

I'll grab a 900KV V2216 now and test it with the CF 11x5 on 4S. Just want to keep it under 20A in flight.

Need some genuine Graupners too!

Team Crazy Eagles
Have you the same test of sunnysky 2212 980kv? I need a comparison between 800kv and 980kv for 3S setup with 10x4.5MR ... Thanks!

I do have some 2212 980's to test. It will just take a while to get it done unfortunately as I don't have a lot of spare time. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

I'm building and acro quad with 2212 980's and APC 10x4.5MR's. So that may be done first. I'll post that in the 980 thread when I get it done.

I have an acro w/ the 980's on 4S, they run both 8045 and 1045 w/ ease. (1045 makes it a rocket, and you have to watch for warm motors, but OMG fun)

Amazing work. I have been looking at these motors to replace my SS 2212 980s. I have converted a DJI550 into a Y6. Running the SS 2212 980s on 4s with 1150 gemfan carbon composite props (same as you tested). Completely out of spec for the motors but the lower motor is barely warm to the touch with AP flying. I get 9 minutes flight with 80% of the battery, tarot gimbal, naza v2, DYS opto 40a esc with simonk, GP3, aeroxcraft landing gear, ezosd, immersion 600mw and zippy compact 4s 3700mah. 16.5 minutes with 7400mah battery. Looks like I am getting these motors and the carbon props. Thanks for the thread, looking forward to the 2212 test.

Thanks for the tip mate! What's your AUW and prop brand on that one?

I'm just gathering a bunch more test props and even more have been graciously donated by Blackout. So I should have a good selection for the 2212 980 test

Great work! This is what I was looking for. I am struggling choosing motors between 800KV and 900KV for my next copter.

Awaiting for V2216 900kv tests

I really would appreciate if you include 10x5 graupner props in the next tests.

Thanks mate, I'll buy a 900KV as soon as I get a few more funds together for an order. I'm looking forward to the comparison too. It will be a week or two away though unfortunately.

I have been wanting to sell a few body parts on the black market to get some Graupners Most of my builds I try to balance price and performance and the Graupners have been on the high side. It will be good to see them head to head with the cheaper props though so I'll try grab some asap.

Cheers
