I was a big fan of the Giles. I'll cherish the two I have. If I hear or see they're supplying good ones again, maybe I'll buy another.
I just bought a VH Giles 202 and its paint is perfect.
The box was a little crushed but no damage to the contents.
The shipping seems excessive at $22 to California, so I bought servos, glue etc as the shipping cost was the same with the added items.
Found that ACE Hardware carries heat shrink tubing in several colors and clear for dirt cheap.
Have a 2206 2300kv motor and an 18A brushless controller so I'll use that with a 8x4 prop.
I bought 4 -5G servos so I can have 1 servo per aileron and have the option of mixing with elevator or flap trim.

Looking forward to building my first 3D profile plane.

The 2206 size motor sounds right, but the 2300kv sounds extremely high, especially for a 8x4 prop. The typical motor kv for 3S is 1500, and 1900 for 2S with an 8x4.

Personally I'm using the 2206 1500kv on 3S 600 lipo with an APC 8x3.8 and a 12A ESC.

Spastic (the designer) has a great blog with a hundred detailed build photos.

Glad to hear you got a good one. What is the date on the box?

I cannot get a hold of Value Hobby. I called and called one day for about 5 hours straight. I ended up buying from Grayson Hobby.

I do not have a problem with not accepting or not being around for phone calls. For toy planes, Email is perfectly acceptable.

If I give you a $50.00 deposit now and the $150.00 on Wednesday the 29th. Will you deal with me?

I bought 4 Towerpro 5g servos that VH sells.
Hopefully they have enough torque.
Interestingly 4 of the 5G servos weigh less than 3 of 9g servos so it could make for a lighter build.
Lightness seems to be the best thing for these so it couldnt hurt.

my 2206 2300kv just means that I'll get 3S performance on the 2206 1500kv with just a 2S battery.

11.1v x 1500kv= 16500rpm vs 7.8v x 2300kv=17900rpm

Not quite done yet with the build, just waiting on a 6ch RX to complete the linkages and glue the bracing and engine mount.

I'll post some pics and video once its ready for flight.

11.1v x 1500kv = 16,650 rpm.
7.4v x 2250kv = 16,650 rpm

11.1v x 10a = 111 watts
7.4v x 15a = 111 watts

So yes, you can match the performance of a 3S and a 1500kv motor with a 2S and a 2250kv motor.

But you will need to use a heavier ESC to handle the 15 amps, plus heavier wire, plus heavier connectors.

I'd be interested in the date on the box of your Giles since you said it has good paint.

Is the groove for the elevator carbon rod on the bottom of the elevator or on the top?
