Yup,

I cut a slightly thinner version of Kevin's templates and cut a few sets of cores, which didn't last long. I built a Std Kato (22oz) and a Kato Lite

I recently got into sailplanes and have been flying off Communication Hill. Have you ever flown there? I have also flown off sierra rd. and ed levin park.

Flying our micro UMX ASK-21's

My ASW on Comm Hill

Sierra Rd.
E-Flite UMX ASK-21 Slope Soaring in 40MPH Winds + Long Range (4 min 21 sec)

Very cool,

....thanks for sharing the videos. I think your little ASK-21 is Hawk bait

I'm interested in these sites and their ideal wind direction and velocity. I google mapped them and guessed at their location and wind direction in the pix attached (Please comment or corrected as needed)

Couple of questions by site;

Sierra Rd - which slope are you flying, where do you park and what trail do you walk? Posted?

Ed Levin Park - which of the 3 HangGlider launch sites, access, fees?

Communication Hill - I've heard alot of wind is required, due to slope and canyon interference

Hey Chip, Remember the Kato likes high wind, more fun the higher the wind, the standard Kato in high winds is like the Kato lite in regular wind. some of these slopes look DSable, just DSed the Kato at Bill hill last weekend, even got Gary and Kenny out there on Sunday, also DSed the Renegade, I need to make a DSing wing for it,

Thanks Kevin,

I think Kato demand might increase after seeing mine fly up here

Don't think Communication Hill has a DS backside, but the others sure look like it (bet those Hang Glider pilots will be envious).

Hope you got Gary to bring his radar gun for your DS'ing the Renegade

What does the wind look like for the weekend?

I've wanted one since seeing one fly down South.

Hey Wayne,

Where were you flying below (I'm assuming south of) HMB? Davenport/Waddell, or something north of there?

thanks,

I flew down below Halfmoon yesterday, and it was very good conditions. 35 mph would be my guess.

Hey Wayne, We're working on getting some available, got Matin working on it, should have some results soon.

Chip, Gary had his radar gun, but he was flying when I DSed the Reny, plus after the second circle the ailerons started flapping, hinge tape was coming loose, fixed hinge tape and ready to try again.

Looks like WNW wind is on the menu for Saturday,...

....with double digit velocity.

Should be alot of So Bay options, with Coyote Hills being a safe bet

If it's W or WNW I will be there Sat. Sunday does not look as good but there is one thing I've learned about bay area weather forecasting. They often say the wind will be West 4 days from now (no matter what day it is now).

Hope to see you at Coyote Chip.

Waiting on the wind,....

....looks like we might get something going on today (Friday looked pretty good).

I Screen Shot Google Maps of Coyote Hills and added it to the Slope Site Aerials with a NW facing slope direction.

I think someone had previously mentioned the Slope Face difference between the Upper and Lower slopes (?)

Chip is was KILLER at Coyote today. From 1 till 4 it was dead West at around 20mph the whole time. Still going good when I left at 4.

As for your map, I'm not sure what your saying but yes many go to the lower hill when the wind is say more north than 330deg. There is turbulence at the top caused by the peak to the north when the wind comes from that way. Some just fly from the lower hill all of the time but I like the perspective from the top better.

Nice to see a Killer Day!

Glad you guys got some. I found a bad cell in my Hobby King LiFe Tx battery pack, so I hit the local slopes at Carl Rd and then back over to Lafayette.

Wind direction was a bit off-face at Carl Rd, almost directly into the NW point. Lafayette had better direction into the slope face and good velocity. I got in some stick time at both sites, keeping an eye on my Tx battery level.

I better order a new Tx pack
