DJI Phantom 2 Vision - Preview

Building upon the successful Phantom, DJI will be releasing the new Phantom 2 Vision, complete with HD camera, live video link to your smartphone, and telemetry.

Phantom 2 Vision

The new Phantom 2 Vision is a breed apart from the original Phantom. Using the Phantom as a starting point, DJI have expanded its capabilities, and simplified its use right out of the box. There is a lot of excitement over this new quad, and for good reason. The Vision will be available soon, with preorders already being taken, and I'll be writing a review of the new Vision over the next few weeks. In the mean time I wanted to share some sneak peek photos!

More info will be available at www.dji.com.

I wonder if you can use different brand batteries? Looks like the battery system is all one unit.

It is an all in one system, but who knows what people will come up with once it's released.

I feel like there's just not that much that can be modded or upgraded. If you're a beginner, it may be a great choice but if you are an experienced modeler, you could build a better multirotor for way less than $1,200 (IMO)

If it is a proprietary battery, that would be unfortunate because then you are limited to using just their products

I'm sure the battery will be reproduced by other sources within a week of it's release, My only concern is how good is the camera compared to a GoPro.
I already have a phantom, Zenmuse Gimbal and Gopro so I would like see if they offer this in a non camera option. Phantom 2 ?

My previous experience with proprietary batteries that have on-board electronics was a complete disaster. That would be the Thunder Tiger Innovator 450 heli, The batteries were way over priced ($80 - $100 for 15C 3S 1800 mah) and had a fatal flaw in the circuit design that caused the battery to fail very quickly. You couldn't use another type of battery because the heli electronics wouldn't recognize a battery that didn't have the on-board chip. Your $600 TT Innovator became a paper weight very quickly.

I will never buy another aircraft of any kind that uses a proprietary battery.

Cpaced, hope you don't mind my comment/update from my end:

I tested video link with Android tablet 4.2 + iPhone3 iOS 6.13 + iPad iOS7 + iPod .... all work fine. I am hoping the more popular Android 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 OS will be supported later on; these are found on lower cost Android phones.
