RALEIGH — Gov. Pat McCrory plans to spend up to $230,000 in taxpayer funds remodeling bathrooms in his private living quarters at North Carolina's Executive Mansion even as he demands belt-tightening for public schools and social programs.

Planned upgrades include new marble, tubs and fixtures for six bathrooms on the upper floors of the Victorian-era home in Raleigh. The changes were included in a long list detailing $90 million in repairs and renovations to government buildings sent to legislative leaders last week by state budget director Art Pope. The $90 million was included in the state budget for the current fiscal year.

North Carolina has become the first state to halt new enrollment in a federal nutrition program for low-income women and children during the federal government shutdown as it works to make the most of remaining funding.

The $7 billion Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children—better known as WIC—provides food vouchers, nutrition information and health care referrals through more than 10,000 local agencies, clinics and state health departments. Of the 8.9 million people who received WIC benefits nationwide in the 2011 fiscal year, about 7 million were children and infants, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which funds the program.
GOP - the party of "fiscal responsibility" indeed!

already ruff, trying for ready
That a Governor may make a questionable decision does not mean the GOP is not the party of fiscal responsibility.

I voted for Bill Clinton. During his term he had an affair. That doesn't mean those who voted for him had affairs or approved of affairs. Your logic is not sound.

At this time, it seems very poor judgement to continue with such expenditures. However, the deliberate mischaracterization of the work being done in the "private" residence can only be assumed to be intentionally misleading in order to whip libs into a frenzy. After all, the work is being done in the Governor's mansion..... not his personal, privately owned real estate.

Governmental SUV. They would have arrived before the V-22, like the other 20 cars in Obama's caravan did.

Like I said, "we got this." Perhaps you should fix your own back yard before worrying about mine.
