Hodges Hobbies Update

Hodges Hobbies is closing it's doors. It's not all bad news though! Read what Mac Hodges has to say about it.

The bad news - Hodges Hobbies will be shutting it's doors soon.

The good news - Mac will now be able to actually fly RC as much as he likes!

The other good news - The field will remain open and active. No events will be affected by the hobby shop closing!

I got wind of Mac closing his doors and like many of you that attend events there I was anxious to find out if this affected the field and events that go on there.

I wrote Mac and he elaborated on closing the store:

Just closing the shop. Everything else will continue as is. I plan to work on the field, play with a few models (aircraft type Smile), go to fly-ins, and have all of the events. Had a birthday Monday...69. Have been running the shop by myself and there is no time for anything else. Havenít done any sport flying in forever. About the only flying I do is the B-29 at events. So Iím going to change all that and kick back and enjoy whatever time I have left. Looking forward to it!

Mac Hodges

Here is the information Mac sent out about closing the shop:

Greetings From Hodges Hobbies;

After a run of a little over 30 years Hodges Hobbies is closing the doors. I've decided it's time and will be winding things down over the next few months. I don't have a definite timetable or definite plan yet but things will grind to a halt sometime in the near future. It will be business as usual as the inventory goes down and expect some sales starting now with 20% off of everything in the store. Take care, Mac

Hey Mac, it sounds like you are getting your priorities in order.

WELCOME to "real" retirement!

I'm looking forward to being able to visit with you again at SEFF 2014. I think maybe this time we will have more time to visit and maybe even just sit by the fire and watch the evening go by.

Mac, sorry to hear that the store is closing but glad we will all get to see you focusing more on the fun aspect of the hobby rather than the work. Congratulations on your success and can't wait to come to HHAEFI and SEFF and fly with you.

Never had a chance to visit the shop but did see you at a meet in Kentucky and know this hobby was a big part of who you are, thanks for the show.
Enjoy what is next!

Instead of closing the doors to a great shop (been there!), why not hire a manager to run the place? This way the store can operate and Mac can still do his thing! Sounds like a Win-Win to me! But good luck in what ever direction you take! Many soft landings!

Going to Hodge's was akin to a trip to Disneyland for me.

Good luck to Mac in his retirement.
