Flying with a full moon

Went out last Friday to fly with the full moon after sunset. I first flew my Pumpkin Head to warm up the camera crew but let it get too dark for the Witch flights. Shutter times were too long and blurred most of the pictures. Here are the best. We have some videos that I'll post once I get them in my hands.

Pumpkin Head photos are in the Flyguy thread.

Congratulations..... that is one wild witch.

Yours almost acts like it has elevons and not elevators. Elevons are useless. I fly mode 2 and have rudder (broom) control on the right stick with the two elevators. There is nothing on the left stick but throttle.

The CG appears to be close. If you have the control system set up as stated, the throws correct and the linkages are tight it must be the CG. Where are you measuring the CG from? 15mm? Do you mean 15 CM? Post 32, step 31 states the CG as 10.5 inches for the Witch from the front of the chest plate back.

One other thing to look at is all your alignments.

I looked at your video a second time. She seems to want to turn left and you were constantly fighting her to the right. This could be CG, part alignments to include thrust or you may need more broom surface area at the tail for stability. Make sure your thrust is 0/0. Make sure all surfaces are 0/0 with each other. If all is good, try flying without the top of the hat. This will greatly improve weathervane stability and you should see a difference in flight. You then will need to add more broom surface to fly with the hat top. My first priority would be to verify CG and alignments because it really looks like one of those two items.

That is Awesome.

I'm going to build this for next year and put my EX wife's pic on it after I got a little green color change to it. She's a real witch and what rhymes with witch . Then I'm going to add a sound system with cackling on it. I wish I would have see this in August, I would have it done for this year.

I just ordered the Witch kit from Bob. Which G10 motor do you recommend?

Either would work. I would tend to go with the higher kv and run a smaller diameter prop. I run the E-Flite Power 10 and fly around at 50% power most of the time. I do recommend a hat change and I'll post some info soon.

Hat modification

I've posted the hat modification in step 30. It is not absolutely required but it will remove yaw hunting at neutral.

Vinyl printed face for your Witch/Wizard.

If you would like, my graphics house has agreed to print vinyl graphics for your project but it is $30 for both the left and right side. What I would need is a high quality side image of the face you desire and a minimum of 3 orders. Sample attached.

Best, Otto

Thanks again Otto

Here is my Halloween project.
I loved the broom flyer so I decided to build one. Its real close to maiden flight. Just need to finish his head and neck and shorten the front landing gear.
Pretty much same as Ottos but I opted for a hobbyking alloy servoless retract for the front wheel, a lil extra foam to the front of the Nimbus 2000, and the head.
After maiden flight I will detail him out with the airbrush.
