Dremel Model 580 Table Saw pulley/toothed belt conversion

OK, so I finally get my saw and the belt wont stay on. I read this is a common problem with them, I tried the fix of realignment of motor, spindle etc...still comes off. So does anyone have part #'s / website for converting the saw to timing pulleys and toothed belt? I found one place that gave part #'s, but that setup is more than I paid for the saw :-( HELP!! IM getting discouraged!

Later Sewing machines have timing belt pulleys on them and earlier ones have round belt pulleys. Electric motor to flywheel drive on sewing machines. "O" rings make good drive belts.

In Post #12 in this thread, tghsmith shows a toothed pulley setup. Not sure if he bought them from Amazon or not from his wording.

I have had my saw since they first came out and it has never thrown a belt. Did you try a new belt from Micro Mark?

Thanks for the responses. I PMed Tghsmith and he can't remember what part #'s. I'm using a brand new seamless belt from Zimco. Adjusting the motor is the OEM's suggested solution, but getting your 1/8" Allen wrench on and turning.g to screws you can't see in a tight spot is not fun. After several cuss words, I managed to readjust the motor perfectly parallel to the spindle. After several test cuts, the belt is still on. We'll see if it stays on.

Question. What is the max thickness/material this thing is supposed to handle?? With a brand new 40 toothed, carbide tipped blade, mine barely was able to rip a 1/4" thick piece of hardwood.

I managed to rip a piece of 1-1/2" stock but that was a piece of balsa wood.

Tghsmith sent me a link to www.robotmarketplace.com I believe I've figured out which components I need for the conversion. They have a neat calculator for determining what length belt you need, check it out.

Gear beats

Hi , You can also find cog or gear belts and pulleys from stockdriveproducts .com. They also have a guide for determining length of belt based on pulley size and distance between centers of shafts. Gary.
