I did hand launching when an over the shoulder launch was common, but haven't tried DLG. Will probably get (or make) a DLG eventually as I'm still "rebuilding" my fleet.

Hi guys,
Had some good thermal flights with the calypso this weekend. I know this is a slope forum, but I am interested if anyone has experience with high starts? I got a TH vista with an upstart. I followed the directions, but on the first pull, the line came loose from the parachute. I ended up using it without the parachute as I couldn't figure out how to reattach, and the last high start I had (25 years ago) just had a streamer! So does anyone here use a full size high start, and where do you fly?

Anyone planning to fly on a slope tomorrow? Should be plenty of wind!

Amen on rebuilding the fleet...HAHa
I'm hiding a couple birds at the office. Too many new planes this month. I think I got the last two Alula's in existence.

I can go after work today. I don't know if my little homemade foam plank will fly in the forecast 20 kts, but I am willing to try! Pickle is closer for me, but I haven't been on crows yet. If someone is going, I would make the drive...

It's probably been 20 years since I've used a hi-start but look at fishing knots for tying the parachute on.

Also, here are some interesting threads on building hi-starts:

How did you make your foam plank? Any pictures? I'm working on a couple home-made planks also.

I followed the plans from this forum:

Except I couldn't find fan fold foam, so used foam board from the dollar store. It is only 30, rather than 36", so I made the chord wider to keep the same wing area. I probably could have just scaled it down and it would have worked better, since I ended up having to put the battery on top of the wing to get the cg right. Sorry no pictures.

That little plank flies very well in the video. I've built a number of airplanes from dollar tree foam but they have all been electric powered. Might have to try a Swifter...

Any body thinking of flying this weekend? Sunday afternoon looks like it will be good. I have a couple rebuilt airplanes that I want to try out and possibly a new DTF plank if I can get it done in time.

Maybe Pickle or Crow Hill?

I was on pickle yesterday after work. The wind was dying down by the time I got there, but the calypso flew well. I tried out the swifter, but I'm not sure I have the cg right yet. It is very draggy and needed an ounce of lead to penetrate at all. I need to go out with someone who has more experience trimming a plank to see if it can do better. Unfortunately I am leaving tomorrow for a two week trip, so will be off the slope for awhile...

Tomorrow afternoon looks like it could be about as perfect as you could want at 9 to 13 from the northwest.
