Drone Crash Lands at Merkel Event

An unidentified drone was spotted at a campaign event by the German chancellor and ordered to land by the police. It crash lands right in front of Merkel. A stern faced bodyguard then picks it up. One day, it will not look so funny though, a bomb could be strapped to it. By the way, can anybody identify the quad?

Drone lands two meters in front of Chancellor Merkel "23 Year Old Flying Drone" (1 min 1 sec)

It's an AR.Drone. A harmless little thing that can barely carry a GoPro camera. You can stick your fingers into the props and... Nothing. I've tried. It hurts for a couple of seconds but they won't cut you. It's a toy.

Could be worse, it could have crashed in front of the President.

Haha was funny, handled so the german way by the security "Ach! Kleine helikopter, I take it !"
The 2nd photo is really cool.
In USA this poor thing would have met a barrage of bullets and triggered a massive wave of new laws.

No idea really. I just assume a Chancellor is the equivalent of a state leader, like a governor.

Of course, you could always try and see how far you can get into the white house

Yep the chancellor is in full charge of the whole country there.
They have a president, but the same way Italy have, with no true power.

Oh okay. So it really is the equivalent of someone flying into Obamas face in the middle of a speech.

Exactly this

Apart that it's Germany, so the guy stayed few minutes at the Polizei and was released once it was clear he was no threat.
With Obama, the man would be allowed out of Guantanamo in 2040 maybe, with luck.

But anyway there's no doubt it's bad PR for the hobby.

The funny thing is if you look at the photo of the AR.Drone crashing all of the people at the speech have this amused look on their face.

If that was the US there would be a dozen armed bodyguards shooting at it with pistols.

Could have been worse, but certainly a dumb move on behalf of the owner.

It was clearly a case of a reporter trying to get a "one up" photo/video of the event. It's not uncommon to see reporters now using smart phones to record news. They didn't seem to concerned. For sure the POTUS would have been hidden away until any potential threat is identified and neutralized. But then again, such a craft would never be allowed in the press pool.
