I also bought an external mag and plan on doing this. Perhaps some of the info in this post will be useful https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...postcount=5123
I think we must pay attention to voltage - I believe the I2C provides 5v and depending on your mag, it might be ok or might need 3.3v.

I noticed in the RCTimer description it says ĚSelect jumper for choose internal or external magnetometer

I'm sure we can figure this out if we can't find someone who has.

-edit- just found this https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1879327

Someone helped me out. It seems like you need to cut the trace at SJ2 and SJ3.
I`m using a external ubec with jumper removed and I measure 4.98v at the i2c port, so you need a 5v external mag. I see most are rated 3v-5v on ebay and some are 2.6v-3.6v.
I ordered 2 mag`s yesterday and will try to get it to work when it arrives.
