Wattage Cessna 172 Conversion

One of many projects that I am working on. It is a Wattage 172 that was on the clearance rack in a local hobby store.

Sold my truck and purchased a Mustang. Limited on the amount of plane I can transport to the flying field. Starting to work on smaller planes.

Looking forward to the maiden.

Jake,

Wattage does make it. It comes as a simple white plastic formed fuselage with a light plywood structure inside. The kit came with stickers that looked cheeeeeeeeesy. I thought I would spruce it up a bit, and I wanted something that would get some attention at the field.

The metalic purple paint is from Testor's with a Krylon clear coat over that. Should be a nice flyer. Keep your fingers crossed.

Nice, guys, Nice!

I cant wait to get my Eaglet off the table so I can get some pics of it and start on my HOB Extra 300L .10 profile!

I was just thinking last night about converting my E-Flight P-47 over for the simple fact that I just can't afford the $70 battery it take to fly it, even on the brushed setup! But IDK how I woudl be able to re-mount the cowl WHO having to build an extended box to mount the motor on to get the prop past the front...

Its just setting there so as soon as the new "Electrics to Glow" forum is up I will start a build thread! Now...what motor? It needs to swing a 9" prop so a .25?

strike my suggestion. the p-47 weighs like 25 oz. that's prolly including the heavy battery and junk. so as glow you'll save some weight, and an AP .061 would fly it very easliy. thats what you need. AP .061. or search and get a real nice MP JET .061 and now CS makes a .061. all of which have good sport engine reviews. of course, the MP JET is high class.

for the mount, you'll have to get creative. the easiest might be to sandwich the foam firewall with two pieces of plywood. but make yourself two square holes in there, with the engine-mount spacing in mind, so as to insert two 1/2" square hardwood sticks (pre-drilled for engine mounting) through the ply-foam-ply firwall. keep in mind your thrust line, and perhaps a nudge of down/right thrust. OH, and the cowl! plenty of epoxy, and you're in business.

I dont think the 061 would swing a prop big enough to get around the Jug's cowl, plus, 061's are very light and even with the big 480 sized can motor the 2100mAh 3 cell pack needed to be as far forward as possible to get the CG, so 061 might be able to carry the size and weight well, but the bigger motor is need to swing the prop size to get enough air past the cowl and to get the CG so too much weight doesnt have to be added.
