the reason not to use apm stuff are the flyaways.

Pretty rare now, and only when the user hasn't set it up properly.

Tempting, but where's the vibration suppressor?


Was hoping it would have internal vibration dampeners like the NAZA has. Doesn't seem to.

Is there an approved off-the-shelf vibration dampener for this FC?

Or do we roll our own, again, like we did with the APM?

Just an FYI, any and all questions that can possibly be asked already have been in linked article in the OP. Yeah its 23+ pages but the questions are being answered by the designers/developers and Chris Anderson himself.

Just an FYI so you're all not asking questions here and no one is answering them.

Tim, you're right, there is no vibration damping built in. However, early indications are that vibration will be well filtered in the code anyway. As long as your machine isn't vibration too much, it might require nothing more than some simple two-sided foam tape.

Previously we were sampling at 200 Hz and using a simple averaging filter. Pixhawk will sample at 1000Hz and use a more sophisticated Butterworth filter.

3DR products are using low-level market segment, thats a pity. So, no compass stand (it appears only in latest APM, btw), no internal dampers, etc. And the situation with sensors looks also strange.

I also will be glad to see Arducopter-compatible high quality controller

Looks like no support for traditional PWM receivers, which is really a bummer. In the comments of one blog post one employee said they plan on offering an encoder eventually. Does anyone know if these exist already?

Then again why anyone would want to run more than one cable from the receiver to FC is beyond my comprehension, especially given how cheap modern receivers are. I'm glad they didn't include a whole bank of headers for old school PWM receivers, that will only serve to make it bigger and not help push the hobby forward. A FrSky D4R-II PPM and Telemetry enabled receiver is what, $20? I have a tricopter I've taken out to almost 2 kilometers on one.
