"Father Goose"

Some time ago a friend dropped an e-mail and asked why I hadn't done a model of the boat from the movie "Father Goose". The reason was that I had never seen the movie. As it turned out, the movie was schedualed to air on AMC the following day, so I set up the machine and recorded what turned out to be a great movie--featuring a great boat!

The Model

Using the photos for reference the plans were roughed in and all the formers lofted up so the hull "kit" could be cut out

Ooooh, Cary Grant movie...

Are you building from scratch?
Are you going to get 12 young school girls on the boat and
Leslie Caron on board?

Construction Begins

The hull frames were assembled to the keel and all the stringers added. Once the basic structure was aligned and glued together, it was shimmed and weighted to the building board. With the keel blocked nice and straight and all the twists removed, the sheers and chines were laninated in place on the hull assembly

Planking the Hull

Once all the basic hull structure was glued in. the 1/2" wide planking was glued in place, starting at the deck and working downward.

Planking Continues

Once all the side planks are in place, the hull is lifted from the board and the planking trimmed at the chine and sanded into the stem and transom former. The next step will be to add the bottom planking--stay tuned!

Umi, Yes, the model is being scratch built from my original drawings. The good news is that the good folks at RC Boat Modeler thought it was a great subject too and twisted my arm until I gave in and let them have it as a construction article. I gotta tell you though, I have a very low threshold of pain, and by merely suggesting an arm twisting did the trick. Besides, those guys have been so good to me I just can't turn them down.
BTW, I have an eye out for the 12 young school girls and Leslie Caron.

Robbie, The 33.5" model is going to be set up with twin direct drive S-280's. I haven't decided on how I will wire them yet, but at this point I'm leaning toward parrellel using a 7.2V 2400 mah NiCD pack. The way things are going I'm going to need the weight anyhow so it might as well be used for duration as well as ballast.
I also plan to use the new Pro Boat "Riptide" ESC with BEC and reverse. I just recently discovered these controls and tried one in my Wyeforce Tug with terific results. It has the smoothest transition through the deadband of any controller I've used so far, and with a tug, that's really important. Should work very well in this boat too.
