I made a battery "sled" from 1/8" plywood...1.5"wide by 10"long. The front hooks under a lip that I installed under the motor mount. Now I can place my battery anywhere I want.... with no need to add dead weight to balance.

Has anyone converted one of these as a STOL/backcountry plane? I'm looking for scale STOL performance. The full scale PA-20 Pacer is popular for backcountry use. I think she'd look fantastic on a set of tundra tires. Plus, having the option to swap the stock wheels and wheel pants back on would make this a very versatile model.

The plane is pretty heavy as is.
Big fat tundra tires would definitely help with bounces but in terms of STOL, it would need a better power/weight ratio.

Order's in for mine. Ordered it with the spinner because it looks 'real nice. I'm going to try to mount up this Power 15 I've got and if it'll go in without mods, great. If not I'll order up a 10.

Figured what the hell. The last of the scale EFlite balsa planes. Better get one before they axe it too.

I just order one from Tower, I will be interested to know if your 15 will fit since I will probably go with that to avoid putting to much dead weight up front.

I used a Turnigy SK3 3536 1200kv motor.

It has an excess of power, (just the way I like it) and I was able to achieve balance on the CoG, without adding weight.
I love flying this plane!

Thanks Doug for the info. is that a 10 size equivalent or 15? What prop and what Lipo, 3s or 4s?
Thank you ,
Frank

I went with a Power 25 left over from a re-kit. Had to shorten the motor mount box a bit.

With a 6.5oz 3s 2200 pushed almost under the motor, it balanced without adding ballast. Came in at 3.0lbs.

My son maidened it yesterday...much better pilot than I am! Great flyer! Gonna be a good teacher for me. Found the rudder to be very powerful.

Thank you, sounds like a good plane. I fly mostly warbirds but a have a soft spot for classic civilian airplanes .

Sorry Frank, I don't come from a ICE background, so I don't think in those 10, 15 or 25 equivalent motor sizes. (I'm assuming that comes from the fuel powered days, and refers to a .10", or .15" displacement size?)
I only pay attention to kv rating, and wattage, and this motor supposedly can put out 500 watts.
I'm pretty sure I put an Aerodrive 11X6 prop on there.
I fly with a 4S 3000 mAh battery.

E-flite PA-20 Pacer 10 Nitro conversion?

I just ordered a E-flite PA-20 Pacer 10e ARF and would like to use an O.S Nitro engine. I read somewhere the electric E-Flight Equivalent is a 10-size glow engine. I have a OS Max .46AX, would that be to big for this 51" wingspan plane?

That's a big engine for this plane.
It requires a bit of nose weight but a .46 might be overreaching. Maybe a .25 at most.

Hi Doug,
I`m in the process of setting this plane up and was wondering if you programed any differential into the ailerons ?
Thanks,
Frank
