Putting a GWS 300C - D pinion on a 2.3 MM Shaft

No one sells a drilled out pinion for the 300C -D box as the pinion is too small. Now get this... on one of my brain fart nights I pressed the pinion I had just removed from the 300C - D motor and placing it in my vice with the back of the Mini AC shaft against a square punch shank preceeded to press the 2mm pinion on the 2.3mm shaft. It went on and didn't tear or break. I then installed it in the D GB and it worked perfect and never slipped. It didn't dawn on me until 2 days later that it wouldn't fit! Just recently I moved the mini to a 300B box and used a drilled out pinion. Then when I finished the Mini Telemaster I again wanted it in the 300C -D box and was going to order a 400 box for it but I like the way the motor fits in the 300 box better and wondered if it could be done successfully again. The answer was the flight pics of the Mini Telemaster sporting again the Mini AC in the 300C - D box. Only thing I can figure out is the brass stretches enough to accomodate the larger shaft! I am tempted to do the same with my Astro 010!

Boomer,

Great information! I guess now there will be a market for used 2mm pinions, I have a bunch on my old 300's and 350's that I've never thrown out .

Andy,
The only thing I've tried it on is the D Pinion. I have no idea if the larger pinions would do the same. I am making no guarantees but it has worked twice for me.

pinion locker??

What do you guys do to lock a press fit pinion in place? I put a GWS 350 pinion on a Himax....It press fit but I think under load it's going to spin..Loctite? If so, what formula?
