Having fun with the whippit today, got some more flights in and getting more confident. Still using roll for my initial turns but getting better regarding rudder for turns. Progress is being made regarding building my Panther and looking forward to its maiden.

Whippit... no fun

Today, I gave it two tries. First try, blades got up to speed, it took off from the ground nicely, but showed a tendency of pulling sideways to the right. It crashed into the ground.

Second try. First I gave the rotor-head a few ticks to the left. The rotor came up to speed, and it flew naturally out of my hand. It flew and somehow it crashed again after making some unstable manoeuvres.

AUW 530 gr, of which the 3s LiPo takes 104gr into account. I am flying it with a Slowfly GWS EP 1047 (balanced).

Why is it showing unstable behavior? The rotor is balanced and spins very nicely, generating ample lift. The hang-angle I calculated and is anywhere near 13.77degrees.

Hi there, difficult to say why the crash on the second flight ... pic of model look ok . Hang angle is a little low and make the model nervous and sensitive . I would increase to min 16 degrees. Try and get some video next flight so we can see and suggest more

Keep at it , you will get there

G'Day Niko
I agree with Steve...hang angle needs attention. I work on between 15-20 deg.
15 is a bare minimum and you can go up to 20. And by the look of your picture... I think that your prop needs a bit more balancing.
Try again my friend...and happy landings.

Thanks a lot Steve & Chris!

PS Yes, this prop suffered from a groundattack and lacks balance since

I would go for more nose weight. All that happens with a nose heavy whippet is you need more power to get lift and bigger stick movements to get control. Check your servos are powerful enough.

@BigT Thx, I will do so. I noticed the servo-travel is quite small (using the coolwind/ HK head), but that's something difficult to improve. I will double-check the servos.

I use Corning 238mg servos at 4.6kg pull at 4.8v. As suggested by Chris

Great servo that I am using in my new build ...but the servo arm that comes with it is CRAP. I use 25 slot (futaba) arms that are a lot better fit. In fact my preference is to use the anodised aly arms with the grub screw to get a grip on the out put shaft.
