GWS Formosa Hacker Brushless Lipo Conversion

I just converted my nearly stock GWS Formosa to a Hacker brushless. I was running the stock 350 with a 2 cell Etec 1200 Lipo. The conversion was easy. I used the Stevens Aeromodel motor mount from Aeromicro. I has to cut off my old stick and glue a new one in the bottom hole. This was required to get the prop shaft to line up with the cowl for a stock look. Here you can see the motor and gearbox attached to the motor mount and the new stick glued in.

I then had to cut a 1/2 deep hole into the plane to allow the motor and motor leads to set back far enough to maintain stock appearance. Here is the motor mounted and ready for cowl.

Here is the finished mod. These are the parts I used:

Hacker B20 15L+4:1
Castle Creations Phoenix-35 Speed Control
Stevens AeroModel Motor Mount
MP Jet 3mm prop adapter #8031
APC 9x7.5 prop
Great planes Nylon Spinner GPMQ4500

I am starting out with the smaller prop since I am still running my 2 cell Etecs and wish to keep the current draw low. I used Motor calc to configure this complete setup. I will move to a larger prop when I can afford the 3 cell lipo.

Stay tuned for the flight report!

I picked up a couple of B20 s's (22 and 31) from Tom Hunt over in For Sale. I plan to try one of these in the Formosa..
