Great Planes Electric STA Ryan

A couple of weeks ago I saw a press release from Great Planes about a new electric STA Ryan kit that's due out late December or early January...

At the swap meet in Chicago yesterday they had a prototype to look at and it's a very nice looking model. Seems to be built very light although you couldn't see the internal structure.

They are recommending their usual 7-cell pack and a can "600" type motor. I'm guessing that won't be a very good choice but I think this will be a very nice e-plane for the sport scale flyers among us.

Note: I have no affiliation with Great Planes, etc. This just looks like a nice model.

So that's what I saw! I really should be willing to ask questions more.

I went to the show mostly looking for a low-wing open cockpit plane that can take advantage of my 10x2400 packs and Endoplasma motor. When I saw the plane I was thinking it might be a good candidate, but since I didn't know what I was looking at, I wasn't sure.

Now I know, and if I read the numbers you gave correctly, I would only be adding about 7oz in batteries and bringing the wing loading up to about 23oz/sq ft.

Although, I'm looking for an ARF, I will have to keep this plane in mind.

Yep, I guess that was it Mitch. I guess you'll have to invest in 7 & 8 packs too .

Nope. I'm firmly in the grasp of the 10-cell trap.
Besides, I think a 10-cell setup would work fine with that plane.

Yeah Mitch, I'm with you. 10 cells and a MM or Atomic or Endoplasm would work just fine. I'm using the MM and 2.5 gearbox in a Happy Fly and it's very aerobatic.

Might have to add this one to my building que

To quote Ed Lyerly - 10 x CP1700 = 8 x CP2400.

GP build 'em tough.

The endo/GP box/CP1700 setup is el cheapo. You could spend as much on that as a lesser 7 cell rig without much effort.

Sounds a logical conclusion.

Ever wondered why GP don't catch on to this?
