Multiplex Panda Sport

The owner of my LHS just pointed me at a new small electric glider from Multiplex, the Panda Sport... I couldn't find much info on it yet, apart from the promo video from Multiplex, which can be found here:
MULTIPLEX Panda Sport [english] (2 min 40 sec)

Seems like a nice replacement for a Graupner Terry S/Chip

Just stumbled across it on the German MPX site. It looks beautiful, but: no ailerons. Easy to fix though ;-) Any idea when it's going to be available?

Regards,
Arthur

Build amost completed, impressed with the Multiplex quality. Think I'm "spoiled" with the less than perfect finishes (sometimes) of the HK-planes.

Hope I can maiden this evening..

Keep you informed

Thanks for the pictures! I am looking forward to receiving my Panda Sport; it wouldn't surprise me if it's the first one in the Netherlands. I'm curious how it flies compared to my Merlin...

For those of you who read german, I posted a quick return on my first flights just minutes ago on the german rclineforum.de

I will write you down my impressions in english after dinner and a good icecold glutenfree beer (or 2), we have sizzling hot 33 degrees Celsius!

Hey, you finished that beer yet? LOL, JK!!! Anyway, hoping you will share your component set-up and weights?

Thanks Man!

EDIT: I know it's probably just the lighting in the pics, but that is a carbon or graphite spar right?

Panda maiden/first flights

Well, it goes something like this:

32 degrees Celsius, sort of lightly windy (not more than 2 bft), with gusts from all directions.

AUW +- 400 grams (4.1 ounces), 2x9 HXT900, TGY 2627-1200, TGY Plush 12, 3S 610mah (51 grams) and 950mah Nanotech (65 grams) as far forward as possibe, Assan 4 channel (put up front). No lead in the tail (ich hate that ) Power is ok for that kind of plane, perfect for slope...

Dual rate 80/125 %, -35 % Expo, after the first flights corrected to 100/125 and no Expo on rudder. COG on the dimples, however it feels tail heavy (with the 610mah) very unusual for a Multiplex (those that I know). In this setup, it shows the slightest vertical air movement, it seems to be a good thermal indicator before taking out the big planes.

A second sortie yesterday evening confirmed the tailheavy-ness with the 610mah (390 grams AUW) In calm winds just before a thunderstorm, with the 950mah (405-410 grams) it flew like on rails.Handcatching is fairly easy, even coming in low and fast.

..more to come...

First Flights Multiplex Panda Sport

With the motor TGY 2627-1200 coming from my MPX Merlin, it's certainly not overpowered, but it climbs nicely in about 30 seconds to thermalling heights.

Starting is a non-event, on full throttle, you just let go, on half throttle, a light impulse of your hand, and away it goes.

Rudder efficiency can be sluggish downwind, but it has already improved somewhat with the COG on the front of the dimples under the wings.

Handcatching is easy, Elapor is sturdy and you just grab the wing when it's coming in (try that with a balsa wing...)

Recieved mine and did a quick inventarisation of the box:
- nice quality parts
- "canopy" allready painted
- no "guiding" slots for attaching the fuse-halves to eachother
- couldn't find the bolts for the motor (ordered the original outrunner) so far

Building / flying will take a while because I first have make new connectors on the HS-5055MG servo's (formerly used in my Easyglider) and the crimping tool for that job had to be ordered...
