Thanks. Yeah it’s pretty fast. I have a video where I’m flying a P 51 even faster because the wind is stronger. I’ll look for it later today and post it up.
But anyway yeah there is no motor involved at all. That is a glider relying only on the wind being pushed up from hitting the slope. It’s kind of a unique part of the hobby flying model airplanes because there are not many slopes that will create enough wind and lift to do this. Dave |

I’ve done some DS myself but I’ve personally never broken 200 miles an hour. I prefer front side slope soaring (like the video I posted) over DS. In DS you basically just fly an oblong circle getting faster each time. Dave |

This one is one of my favorites. And you can see as I throw the P-51 glider off the mountain the wind is strong enough to blow me back.

Normally with slope soaring you fly into the dead air behind you to lose height so you can land back near the launch point. If the terrain doesn't allow that you can fly along the slope (crosswind) then turn 90 deg into wind and plonk it down quickly.
I've only done a small amount of slope soaring, years ago. It was great fun though, and if I had a suitable site anywhere near I'd certainly do it again. PSS is very popular and there have been some awesome models over the years including Simon Cocker's 6 metre An-225, which took four people to launch |

This was the first opportunity I’ve had to test the new, large, hexacopter in the field instead of my front or back yards. The area chosen is what is known as the dog pond, where people can walk their dogs and themselves around the pond. The drone worked perfectly with the motors never getting too hot or the electronic speed controls. I did not deplete the batteries but rather brought two sets of batteries and swaped them out. The purpose of the test was primarily to see how well the drone could function and while the location is interesting my main focus was on the flight characteristics of the drone itself. I flew the drone using goggles exclusively and this was for my own piloting enhancement skills. Some clips on the video show telemetry data as recorded separately but provides an idea of what I see through the goggles.

Working on it.
Also I wanted to test a new camera for drones called a run – cam Hybrid. It’s a Hybrid because it actually has two cameras; one is to record the flight and the other is to transmit what the drone sees and its telemetry. The telemetry is not recorded on the run – cam. That would be accomplished with my other set up. I was impressed with the camera since it’s fixed to the drone. The drone is a very stable small quad. So, it was a fairly successful test and at this point I don’t think a gimbal is actually needed.

phantom 2 conversion to flamewheel f450?
hi and good morning.
i have a phantom 2 that was crashed a long time ago. when i crashed it, the zenmuse went one way and the copter went the other. the zenmuse snapped and broke. total loss. two of the propellors broke as well. amazingly... the copter doesnt have a scratch on it. you cant even tell it was crashed. my question is, can i take the motors and electronics out of it and place them on a flamewheel f450 and use the original controller? im not interested in the phantom 2. i thought it would be a cool project to learn how to put a quadcopter together. thank you. |

Don't know what the controler is in a phantom 2 (probably naza phantom?). But what you propose sounds reasonable.
