E-sky Lama v4 balance and setup of metal swashplate

A few years ago i bought a v4 lama (1st one ever), and i foolishly upgraded to metal swashplate etc. I gave up on setup and put it away for a number of years!! I really want to fix and fly this chopper!,.......when i apply throttle, it only goes backwards and liftoff results in a hard turn to the right?! Any help from step one please?

You need to level the swashplate by adjusting linkage. It's not a drop-in upgrade.

FAQs 101 is written for and dedicated to the CX2 coaxial helicopter - which is a near duplicate of the Lama V4. It is 101 questions and answers (with lots of pretty pictures) that explains in easy to understand beginners level - the theory of coaxials - how they fly - how you fly - setting them up - adjusting - testing - fixing - and modifying. Glad to send you the sample version if you drop your email address in my msg box.

If the battery has been sitting for more than a year, it's likely fallen below minimum levels and will never accept an adequate recharge. You need to check voltage with a voltmeter. Fully charged should be around 8.2v - 8.4v. Check what it is after a flight as well.

Too bad you live so far away! The Lama V4 was my first heli and I'm pretty good at getting them working. I'd be happy to do it for you, but shipping both ways would be pretty expensive. Plus, who knows if anything is wrong.

I wouldn't want it for myself. I have pretty much left the hobby due to some age related health issues. I don't fly so good any more. But, I still try to help wherever I can. I'd be glad to try and get it going for you. But, I will warn you, ESky is no longer sold outside of China. So, parts are hard to find. I mention that as a future consideration. I'm not going to break anything. But, you might, after getting it back.

To be honest, this type of aircraft is all but dead now. Micro sized quads and self-stablizing single rotor helis dominate that market now, especially micro quads. They are much cheaper, far more durable and can fly circles around any coax. You can buy a very nice WL Toys V949 quad for $50 - $70. So, you might want to give it some thought. They have no moving parts but the motors, too.

I would not send any batteries. I don't need them and they add lots of weight. It's not legal send lipos, either.
