dz1sfb: I did a pod and boom glider body for a wrecked Swift glider wing that was left over from a dumb thumb adventure. I used a carbon golf club shaft that worked well also. They are tapered and I paid a few bucks at the thrift shop for a driver.

That should work out great. Mountain Models sells one of the cheapest full span DLGs around - the DL50 (http://www.mountainmodels.com/produc...roducts_id=212)

It's a cut foam core wing glassed with very light glass but not bagged. It's targeted to people who would like to try out a DLG but can't afford a bagged wing or don't have the tools to do bagging themselves. Click on the page above and read the manual on how to glass the DL50 wings. It's a great starting point for a home made DLG.

Ok, I want to build one of these when I get my hotwire set up (not right away though....gonna take a while to get everything for it ) so I can hotwire an airfoiled wing. What type of airfoil would you guys recommend? Thanks!

Man, now I want one of those DL50s... very nice I've been looking at DLGs for a while but again the expense and the fact that I have no hot wire cutter make it difficult. I can't see justifying building a hot wire cutter at nearly the expense of a kit DLG, because I just don't think I'd make wings that way very often.

Hot wire cutting does not have to be expensive. Most modellers have all needed on hand.
See recent post.

The DL50 is not full span. DLG's around one metre are structurally easy with light glass or laminating film covering over foam. At 1.5m things are much more expensive.

A well known forgiving foil is the HM51 derivative of a RG14 foil. It has the advantage of having a thicker trailing edge and requires only a single template for a pivot cut.
A common two foil wing is the AG3/AG11 combination as used in the Apogee and later MiMi. Smaller wings can also be sanded in balsa or foam board sheets.
G_T on the HLG forum has a one metre and a poly foil that are both suitable for smaller gliders.

Thanks Rusty, I'll try out the HM51 when I get the chance.
