This file is obsolete, it was the preliminary spec from 1 year+ ago.

The antenna doesn't look like a 2db one like on the other frsky modules.. is it a 5db antenna?

I doubt, just a plastic blob to encapsulate the classic sleeve balun thing.
There is no reason to use 5dB on receiver, will rather create troubles.

Is it safe to assume that the radio will have to go through the FCC certification process? A quick search of the database shows Frsky did get certification for their 2-way module back in 12/2010, but I doubt that would apply to a new product.

You are right, unless the new module is just the old with a different firmware.

+1 - I can't imagine a new radio released that does NOT balance out of the box for those of us that fly with straps. Who knows maybe they will all come with an add on balancer.

Bummer...

I guess it'll be at least a few months before Aloft can sell the radio pending FCC approval - enough time to ramp up production

Kinda sorry I didn't wait for this. I just got finished installing a sky board in my 9x.

I don't see why it's going to be using a different rf board, I think its going to use the existing one with a new firmware.
