TWISTED HOBBYS 32" Crack Laser!

Greetings again fellow Twisted fans!

Well, since the Crack Yak debuted a little over a year ago we have come a long way. We have done the revised Extra Slick for sharp, wood-like performance, the Crack Pitts for stable performance and the flair of a bipe, the Crack Yak Lite for depron floatiness at EPP prices and convenience, and the Crack Yak Mini for flying hard in smaller spaces.

However, the very first Crack Yak hit a note in this industry. What everybody wanted was an extreme EPP foamy to help you take your flying to the next level, and the Crack Yak delivered. We aren’t content to rest on our laurels at Twisted, so when Brad gave me carte blanche to design the next Twisted airplane I just had to design another model that was capable of scratching that itch that every extreme pilot has…fast roll rates, locked-in precision, and unlimited capability.

Presenting the Crack Laser!

This is a “Cracked-out” model of the full scale Laser, incorporating the same stealth styling cues and design philosophy of the Crack Yak and Crack Pitts. The Laser is one of the most recognizable and classic aerobatic designs, and makes a refreshing change from all of the Extras, Edges, and other more modern designs on the market now. Additionally, the fuselage shape, canopy placement, wing shape, and tail shape of the Laser can make for an incredibly locked-in and capable model…owners of the Extreme Flight Laser EXP can attest to this! The Crack Laser is part of the Lite series, designed for indoor use or outdoor use in light wind with 2S 300-450 mah batteries and the Twisted Lite Power Combo.

The Crack Laser was designed to take full advantage of the lower wing loading that we could achieve with the thinner construction and lighter components of the Lite series. For example, the wing planform of the Crack Yak makes for silky smooth harriers at a slightly higher wing loading. We found that on the Lite series of aircraft, the lower wing loading made for great harrier performance…so we could add a little bit of sweep to the wings for better rolling and precision without sacrificing harriers. We also added some other important improvements… the T-canalizer makes for a silky-smooth rudder response, and the SFG’s on the elevator and ailerons not only make for a crisp response, but add stiffness. Additionally, there are certain things that I like in an airplane that I wanted to incorporate into this. The Crack Yak was designed by Chris J. for his tastes, and the Crack Laser is designed by myself for mine!

The result is the absolute smoothest, most precise EPP foamy you’ve ever flown, with the absolute best rolling performance on the market. Slow rolls and rolling circles are as easy and forgiving as the Crack Pitts, and the elevator and rudder response are smooth and crisp. I have never felt more precise flying a foamy than with the Crack Laser. But when you peg the sticks this thing rolls even faster than the Crack Yak! In fact, it’s about the only thing out there that can keep up with the Crack Yak Mini. What’s most impressive though is how stable and consistent it is. It’s extremely predictable and always rolls at the same rate, and tracks on a wire as it drills along. All of this occurs at remarkably slow and predictable airspeeds. This is the best plane I’ve ever flown for fast point and rifle roll practice! Don’t let that capability scare you, though. It’s floaty and forgiving around center and is just as easy to fly as any other foamy.

Important notes about this build:

The Crack Laser builds almost exactly the same as the Crack Yak Lite. About the only difference is the addition of the SFG's on the ailerons and elevator, and the T-canalizer. However, we have found some new construction and assembly techniques which will really increase the durability and longevity of this airplane and get it even closer to a standard 32" plane. If you get confused you can always refer to the manual and the Crack Yak Lite build thread.

Without further ado, let's build it!

CG is 1" back from the spar

Last picture caption has been truncated. It should read: And one final trick: we have found that it's best to cut a slot for the batteries with these planes. They roll more axially and stay more true during pushes and pulls. However, since you will likely want to fool with CG a bit, you only have one shot to mount it correctly once you cut the slot. So for a few test flights, mount the battery to the fuse with T-pins. This will allow you to move it around a bit and then cut the slot.

UPDATE: The kit has been updated and no longer includes Z-bends. Please, follow the manual, not the build thread! The manual can be found here

Looks awesome. I wonder what the chances are of a Laser "Mini" in the future? I'd pre-order that in an instant.

Jeeeez, a total of 3 guys at my field bought slicks in the last 30 days because they saw how well mine flew, guess I'm a crack ambassador (where is my discount TH...I'm pushing your product real good) I have to one up them with this new bad boy. Any videos of it getting tossed around yet?

Am i right that its about 2 oz. lighter than my slick? Wonder how it would fly with the heavier 450mah batts I already have

This is exciting! The Laser is one of those models we are anxious to hear flight reports on, she's an amazing ship! It’s been asked before, what model design could we think of next after the Crack Yak-55??... we bring you the Crack Laser.

Proper respect go to Cody for crafting our new Crack Laser Lite model. His amazing flying style along with his vision for flight design has immensely impressed all of us here at Twisted Hobbys. We are honored to release his new design in our Lite-Series line up along side the Crack Yak-55 Lite. What also makes this project very special to us is not only did Cody design the Laser he also created the artwork as well. The scheme gives a visually bold presence while having the desired ability to orientate the model (this is a must )

There are a few new added features which set the Laser apart from our other models. This including inter-counter balance ailerons, outer control surface sfg's along with a T-canalizer which gives the Laser remarkable tracking and precision. I will let Cody express more of the flight characteristics for you guys but all I will say is she’s simply that good. Enjoy this one guys!
