Whoa! What is this? 30 years ago one of the great free things we did with our preschool and grade school kids was wander around Kenmore Air Harbor looking at the planes. Back then the Beavers had round engines but a few years later along came the turbine conversions. This brings back good memories of little guys splashing through puddles in moon boots.
What a great idea for a build subject. Thanks Pat. Robert |

options?
I suggest that the Beaver be offered in both radial-engined and PT6 versions. Airframe's gonna be the same and some of us are partial to round engines. I admit that the turboprop engine makes an enormous amount of sense for the fullsize beaver's utility, but it's gonna be hard to paint up a Beaver in US Army colors. Or the amphibious Beaver I flew in out of Sydney harbor in Oz.

Building the Tail Section
The vertical and Horizontal tails are built up in the typical fashion using a symmetrical airfoil section. Hinging is done with 5/32" wide bits of thin Cya hinge cut from Great Planes hinge stock.

Getting Started on the Fuselage
The side frames were done directly over the plans. Both are the same, so the same side view drawing was used for both. Then before starting to join the frames, the landing gear and float mounts were set up on the appropriate bottom formers. All of the parts for both the main gear and the float mounts will be provided in the kit so that the 32" floats can be mounted without the need for modification.
More to come soon. . . . PAT |

Joining the Sides Frames
Joining the sides begins at the top of the cabin. The frames were pinned in place over the top view and aligned with machinists squares. The 3 middle formers are notches so will self align. Once those were in place they were tacked with thin Cya. Next up were the front and rear cabin formers and the IP former. With those in place and glued securely, the frame is stiff enough to lift from the board and add the bottom formers with the LG and Float strut mounts.
With the cabin area done, the front end came next with the firewall and middle formers, then it was aft to pull the tail together and glue in the aft formers. From here, the stringers will go in, then we'll get the servos and elevator control guides in and set up. PAT |

I had to do a double take when I saw the last few build photos. I was expecting an Mk III Turbo Beaver... but it appears this is a Mk1 with a turbine conversion. The Mk I style empennage and the apparent lack of the 28" fuselage extension foward of the wing gave it away.
A very interesting build subject Pat. I don't know if I have ever seen a Mk I Turbo Beaver modeled before. |

TL, the Beaver is a brand new design. Once the p-type is finished and flown I'll be offering it as a Short kit. The kit will go out as the Turbo version, but the fuselage is designed such that for those who prefer the radial version, all you'll need to come up with is a cowl. The firewall is in the original location, so it'll just be a matter of eliminating the front former bay when framing the fuselage.

About Beavers or Pat's models? Pat has a "few" designs already. http://www.patscustom-models.com/
