NOTICE TO (BRUSHLESS) GIMBAL DESIGNERS:

You guys have go to start developing front mounted gimbals for the thousands of us who fly small quadcopters...and in particular TBS Discoveries. Not all multicopters are designed for huge under-mounted gimbals requiring landing skids etc. Also front mounted GoPro sized gimbals would be perfect for airplanes in addition to multicopters...I'm noodling some gimbal retrofits for the nose of my Skywalker.

Thanks for any consideration

You should have read the thread! That is exactly what he designed for his Y6 (which I would love to see)

Ed,

Really a great job.

I would really like to use your design with the live view AV port. At shapways the file is still without. Do you have a link for the new version?

Thanks,

Vincent

ok, so files updated to 1.04

- reinforcement rib to the vertical mount added
- liveview port added
- liveview text added
- skylight text changed
- a few corners cleaned up

withe the TBS frame, what mounting possibilities are there to graft a mount onto?

it is updated on shapeways

in fact im only updating on shapeways, keeps its simpler i think. whatever is on shapeways is the latest file version. (you dont have to buy the shapeways parts, the files are there to download directly). also lets us accumulate several 'versions' with different mounts, or whatever depending how it evolves.

Ultimaker and the new makerbot are good choices if you don't want to tinker.

Ed,

Thank you very much for the update on Shapeways. I think your design is brilliant.

My 3d-printorder is sent out. Will let you know the results.

ha! thats what im talking about!

awesome that youve picked it up and taken it another direction
also jealous youve got a hero 3 to play with

Lupus - sent you a PM re: updating parts if required

EDIT: you 'front mounted' guys... what frame specifically? and what potential mounting positions/holes/options are there to accommodate a mount for the roll motor. or if thinking non 'frame specific', what kind of 'generic' forward pointing mount would be desirable?
