Mike,

Just great, that is all Tim needs is a more competative plane.

Looking pretty smooth and fast Tim!

We are all so happy for you. No really😂

"hauling the mail"

Did you know the first official air mail was sent in Petaluma over a hundred years ago?
Maybe that's why you posted that, local history.

The postmaster built his own Wright-like flyer to deliver it.

I'd like to get to the Slot sometime, gotta get a speedo.

Now that you mention it, I do recall reading about it somewhere.
If I remember right, it took him some ridiculous amount of time to do the first run, like a week or more! Kept having break downs. Good thing it was mostly pasture back then around there.
We have come a long run since then, ehh?

Steve Situm just put two speedos up for sale on the sailplane classifieds. He is right there in Petaluma if I remember right!

Snatch em!

The Slot claims two more today!

Well. got up to The slot around 3pm today, it was partly cloudy and a nice sw wind at about 10 to 15.
Shawn was up there dailing in his Marin, it was banging the turns pretty good considering how bumpy it was at the time.

It was coming and going with boomer thermals blowing through which were flipping my light speedo on its back sometimes! lol When you snagged one, seems you could climb as high as you wanted,...quickly!!
I did play with the cg on it till I was happy with it.

Then about four or so, the lift was picking up a bit, so I brought out the Wasabi!
Was having a good time with it and flew for about thirty minutes when I decided to land and make some adjustments to my cg and dual rates.
Shawn put his Marin back up again with a little added ballast I believe, and was ticking off laps at a pretty good pace.

I put the Wasabi back up and was very happy with my adjustments and was just boring holes in the sky having a blast,............when the unthinkable happens!

I was coming out of a huge loop crosswindwise, and Shawns Marin just pulled out of some maneuver also, and we were going at a pretty good clip, and we midaired

It was loud! it was not a glancing blow, it was a direct hit, the Wasabi was disintegrated all the way past the wing saddle.
Shawns Marin lost a wing and busted the tail about midway back.

All I could find from the nose was the Battery, with a big axx dent in it, and the top half of my Rx!The other two servos are MIA. Shawn did find a piece of the casing from one servo! lol

Below are the pics of the remains.

I feel bad for Shawn and his Marin, I know he had that thing dialed and ripping.
Midairs seem to always happen when you least suspect them, don't they?

A bummer of a day for both of us. Like Mike said we should have bought Lotto tickets tonight, the odds... The conditions were huge, as big as the SLoT ever gets. We were both just tearing up the sky. I just came out of a split S ballasted in reflex probably doing over 100+ and kraak almost head on. The Wasabis nose and my left wing met about 4" from the fuse. It broke the joiner box out of the left wind and pretty much turned it to splinters. Another one for the ever growing dead wing pile. Broke the fuse in a couple places. The right wing has some wrinkles in it but is repairable. There were parts from both planes scatered over about 80 yards. I'm really sorry about the Wassabi. It was a really nice plane. Mike was having a great time burning holes in the sky with it.
Argh...

My condolences to you both. What a total bummer.

And to think I was ticked off about a bad servo when I got up there on Friday . . . puts things into perspective.

That explains it Shawn, we were both hauling axx when they met! lol
There was no time to react at all,....but it seemed to happen in slow mo.
I have had midairs before, and that happens with our hobby, but this one gets a 10 in my book for the wow factor.
I believe the two servos and Rx in the nose were pulverized, could only find pieces!

Shawn, I want to say you lost more than I, and was more concerned for how I was handling it. Shows you are a good man.
I just want to make sure you know there are no hard feelings between us.
Hopefully we will look back at this and laugh about it

Mike, there are absolutely no hard feelings! Your one of the guys who make our club a great place! I"ll fly with with you any where any time my friend. It was just one of those things that happen. Every time you launch an airplane you accept the fact that it may come home in a bag. Ironically that's the second mid air for that fuse. It's the one from last years ISR.

Sane til the lift starts!

Most of the people I fly with have an understanding with each other. In the event of a mid-air (regardless of who's "at fault"), we each have about 30 seconds of cussing and yelling allowed. Then it's all laughter and no hard feelings, and "I bet my pieces are smaller than your pieces!"

I still sucks to lose a good plane, but that's just part of the game.
