Hey guys, I really need some help. I finished building a little micro plane, made of 1mm carbon rod and foam from my shock flyer, gearbox was made from a heavyduty servo arms, gears from a zipzap and motor from a cell phone ( I work for cingular) and this thing looks awesome! I really wish I could post pics. I could send a pic via cell phone to someone and if they can get a pic from there phone to the net they could post it? anyways.... I am only going to have rudder and throttle (zipzap) but I broke the coils. how do you guys make the coils? the zip zap had two coils with a magnet in the middle, is there a certain way to wind them? please help, I am eager to get this thing in the air. also, is there a certain wire I have to use? does it need to be insulated? or can I use wire from an old motor? thanks for the help guys.

Hey brandon
Your plane sound really interesting, I really want to see pics! Anyway go to the "micro thread index (best place to start)" thread at the top of the micro models forum. In there you can read up about coils, and if you dont want to buy one, just do a search fo coils in this forum, and you will find plenty of information!

Good luck, and have fun.
I cant wait to see your plane.

Making coils is fun. Very rewarding. Next I'll have to try a 2mm one.

PS: Making Litz wire is more fun than making coils

Finding litz wire in small quantities is difficult so we used to make our own. I even made a machine to wind it as well as a CNC coil winder.

Feel like I just turned on the way back machine We wound them because you could not buy them. Seems like a long time ago, but machine wound coils became available and it was just not worth the bother. I still have spools of #44 wire around somewhere. Eh Michael
