Could North Korea do it?

There's no question they could throw 1 missile up & land it somewhere. They have enough money to build exactly 1 nuke & launch exactly 1 missile every certain number of years. There's a certain chance their government won't collapse, Kim Jong Un's people won't sabotage the missile & won't ignore him. It would have a 1 in 3 chance of hitting land, a 1 in 20 chance of hitting some territory in US.

Given enough time, there's a chance N. Korea is going to eventually hit something & kill someone in US. Maybe they'll get 5 million people in a city. Maybe they'll just get the last person in northern Idaho.

The debate has not been whether N. Korea can do it, but whether they'll ever come up with a reason to do it. So far, there hasn't been any logic to it, in terms of western ideas. They don't have to subsidize Fannie Mae, medicare, social security, or student loans. They don't have to pay individual mandate penalties. They're not banned from using cell phones while driving, owning guns, or hiring prostitutes.

North Korea sounds like it has nothing to gain & everything to lose, to the western mind, but what about a totally irrational mind? We don't have a concept of such a thing so we don't worry about someone doing something just to do it. There has to be a logical reason behind it, to us.

In a world where logic doesn't exist & missile launches are only a matter of the random firings of neurons, they're mathematically certain. Any action based totally on the random firing of neurons is a foreign concept to US, even in the land of attainable women, who normally are disabled, sometimes mentally disabled, & sometimes completely unserviceable, but totally random minds probably exist in N. Korea.

Assuming the random neuron firings go unimpeded, everyone required to launch a missile does their job, & the nuke manages to hit just the right trajectory to hit US, there have been many missile defense systems, over the years. They have targeted planes & ICBM's of a limited speed & distance.

In terms of stopping an ICBM from N. Korea, there's no fully functional system. It would be much faster than the scud middles of patriot missile fame & a much broader area would have to be defended than Jerusalem. A system Dubya funded was in some unfinished state, mostly canceled under Obama, & was never very reliable.

It's mathematically certain that someday an action of random neurons that western minds can't possibly imagine is going to hit US with a nuke. Millions of people are going to be wiped up. People you see every day aren't going to be there, anymore. Money is going to be made on lawsuits. There's going to be a scandal involving guns, heterosexuals, & immigration amnesty. Then everything will go back to normal.

Hey Cross, funny you bring this up as I just watched Red Dawn 2 last night for the first time.

I agree NK has nothing to gain and would only seal their fate in the world if they struck preemptive but I argue the fact that they would't try to strike a neighbor. Don't know how much news you watch and honestly I don't really know how much is really true but apparently NK scrapped the armistice agreement with SK so its game on! Just after this announcement the Obama admin resurrected the Bush missile defense program and wrote a check for another billion to get it going so Washington has taken notice.
