Healthcare anyone ?

So here's my support of healthcare

1 - Two weeks back, go to my GP (no cost - appointment same day) with a suspicious lump on tongue - GP refers me to a specialist

2 - Appointment with Oral Surgeon comes through the post three days later

4 - Go to see Oral Surgeon two days after that - he says 'we'll dig it out for you but it looks benign' BUT, you've got a couple of nasty looking old back teeth there, they need to come out................!

5 - Yesterday, get a letter 'Can you come in tomorrow at 1:45 - if so ring to confirm"

6 - Into the Hospital this morn - lump cut out of tongue and 5 stiches - two 'nasty' old teeth out BUT....'there are another three that frankly aren't up to much, would you feel comfortable if we whip those out now or would you like to come back in a few weeks' ?

7 - "I'm here now - do it"

8 - One hour later, back home looking like Mike Tyson landed a good one on me, but otherwise fine - total charge for all this, a big fat ZERO!

So - all you Obamacare haters, how does that stack up against your expensive insurance jobbies ?

I'm sure you were trying to make a point but all I walked away with is the UK has an absolutely horrible dental plan.

I agree - our NH dental care is absolutely poor - hence the problem, I had a GREAT dentist til she moved - I live miles from anywhere so problem!

My point was that my healthcare was speedy, efficient and at no cost to me - that'll do for me

I understand they don't even have to pay taxes over there.

No cost to you? You mean you don't pay any taxes?

I take your point - it was inevitable that one of you would point out that little detail

Thing is IF I didn't pay taxes (and many don't) I'd still get the same service

Free health care means the paitent won't push back when surgery recommended for nothing at all. Third party payer.

I'm glad your healthcare system works for you, ET. I'm sorry about the teeth, truly. There is no pain known to man as bad as mouth pain, it affects absolutely everything you do.

This is a great example

It's more important to the right in America for people to die broke if they or their children seriously get sick.

If they can't pay when they get sick the right wants these people and their children to die quickly.

My SIL went through this very thing...get sick, lose employee health insurance, rack up bills, lose hospital care due to racked up bills, go to emergency room to be stabilized NOT TREATED, rack up more bills.......go on Social Security and medicare because of unable to get paid care.

Right wing logic is higher price for care = better care
