Yep, it would be fun threading a large hull into a narrow dock.

Looks like the Svitzer tug's line was too short and he was at just the proper angle to the ship that his thrust pushed against the port quarter of the ship and plastered him against the wharf...that coupled with the fact that they were approaching the wharf with quite a bit of stern way.

I think it is obvious that the Beks Halil could not have seen any
over taking lamps, so there shouldn't have been any issues.



Do you suppose the bow wave just nudged the stern out on the smaller bulker?

That's exactly what happened.

I'd say the larger bulker was overtaking and failed in his responsibility to keep clear of the overtaken vessel, then they both got a lesson in vessel interaction.

Bow wave interacted with the stern of the smaller ship pushing it to stbdand causing the smaller ship to turn to port

I'm not saying this is the case here, but on a merchantman during the day, if no pilot is aboard and the weather is good, the only person on the bridge is the mate on watch........ No designated lookout, nobody driving. The ship is on the "iron mike".... This is so the deck force can be doing ship's work. Since this is a busy channel, you would think the captain was in the wheelhouse as well, but in this case I highly doubt it.

If this happened between 8 and noon, the third mate (least experienced) would have been on watch.

Again, I don't know the circumstances here, but it seems obvious that someone was left to his own (poor) judgement.
