Boaters are nice people.
Hi Dale,

Welcome to the wet side!

Regarding your questions:
- 1) read the thread: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1404719
- 2) see 1)
- 3) see 1), any obstruction in the inlet slightly reduces the efficiency, for these small jets there are no brass impellors available.

Regards, Jan.

While I second Jan's suggestion that you read the thread, I will admit that there is sometimes a fair bit of random stuff to sort through in there to find the useful bits. That said, it is an entertaining read!

The basics in my opinion:

Ideal motor = 24mm or 28mm water cooled inrunner, 2800-3200kV on 3S 2200mah LiPo.
ESC: Turnigy Seaking 35A
Servo: Any 9g servo or larger, bonus points if it's waterproof.

Jet upgrades are not necessary, aside from maybe changing the stock plastic grate to some small metal rods. The plastic one works fine though until you break it.

Anyway, come on over to the main thread, we'll help you through the process.

Also check out the Tear Into forum on the RCU site http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7991409/tm.htm as the one here on RC Groups has turned into basically a chat room, and takes a lot of reading to find pertinent info.. A good powerful motor would be this 28mm water cooled brushless from HK http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...rSearch=3900kv. You'll need a 3.17 to 2.3mm coupler. Any 60A water cooled esc will work as well as any full size servo, no need to spend a lot of money. You'll like the boat, it's a blast to run in rapids. I use expanded metal, like what some desktop organizers are made from (Wally World) as a grate to keep out the baddies, as the original grate (or stainless wire copies) still lets in small pebbles that will destroy the plastic impeller (get spares from ebay). Hope that helps!

I had a spare 3500kv outrunner laying around so put that in my NQD jet boat. On 3S, it reaches max speed at about 60% throttle and won't go any faster so I just use 2S packs now.

It's a fun boat but not as fast as I hoped for.

Yea 3500kV is a bit high for 3S. Also, a jet boat will never be as fast as a prop boat due to how they work. Way more resistance to flow in a closed system compared to having a surface drive prop out back spending its time half in and half out of the water.

These are most at home in rapids in small creeks where you can play with the features of the stream and not worry about damaging the boat or the prop on rocks.

I can't run my fast prop driven boats right now due to the amount of weed in the water so this little jet boat is good way to still enjoy the hobby. It's not clogged up once yet.

Yea that's a plus too for sure!

But do yourself a favour and find a creek!

NQD jet drive(s) in a scale boat

Has anyone used the NQD (757?) in a scale model boat? I know someone that is building a Dumas American Enterprise and original design called for jet drives. The AE is 52 inches long. I don't know what the finished weight should be. Lew
