Blade 500x Battery Size

Hey Guys,

I am the new owner of a Blade 500x. First off, great heli that flys awesome (at least for someone who only started a few months ago), have run a few packs of the factory 2900mah 6S that comes with it and it’s a lot of fun. Not wanting to pay E-Flight prices for batteries, I picked up 4 nano-tech 45C 3300mah batteries. They are a tight fit…however not even thinking about weight, I was wondering if there will be significant flight characteristic changes for a guy that definitely can’t fly hard 3D right now. The weight difference of stock – 346grams vs Turnigy 3300 – 565grams is about .5 lbs which is around 12% of its overall weight, which seems significant. I was wondering if anyone else had some firsthand experience or opinions on the matter? I should know by tomorrow morning if I can get some flights in….

Appreciate any insight!

I think it should be OK if you don't do 3D. I am sure the brushless motor can handle that extra weight.

Be aware of your center of gravity with the bigger batteries. bigger batteries will make it nose heavy

Im suprised you can get 3300's in there with no mods. ( all that weight will make your 500 a bit sluggish )

I have found that 500's fly best with 2800mah..Perfect happy medium. Only there hard to find..Tiger lipos are the only brand i know of in 2800...Or these 2700's are excellent 500 batteries as well. http://www.chinahobbyline.com/ProductShow.asp?id=2116

Well it went pretty good...flew a couple of packs and didn't seem to track forward too much more than stock!! They do fit with no mods but the canopy is definitely a bit tight!
