Thanks guys.
Jeremy, Air frame weight as she is now, with motor, all servos, retracts, tank and plumbing is 2 kilos. 6s 5000mAh lipo, speedy, rx battery is another kilo. Allowing another 200 or so for glass, paint, wheel doors etc brings it to 3.2 kilos, maybe up to 3.5. That's around 7-7.5 pounds. Assuming around 1000 Watts, it should be around the 130 watt per pound mark. I think that ought to work ok. Kmot, That panel is made from a sandwich of polystyrene sheet, whith a photocopy of the kit instrument sticker in between. Cocking handles are polystyrene, and the gun sight body is blue foam. Have been a bit lax on postings on this blog.
I can report that the P-39 is now flying, and i am very happy with the performance. First three flights had a 15 x 10 prop on front, which made very sluggish acceleration on the take off run, with prop cavitating for the first 10 meters or so and ballistic top speed. I have changed to a 16 X 8 and this is much better. Was also nose heavy for the first few flights and needed a heavy elevator pull to rotate for takeoff Flight 4 did not get off the ground. Lifted her off perhaps a bit early and when i released the elevator she sagged back down, folding the nose leg back and breaking prop and fiberglas spinner. No more flying that day! Made a new nose leg retaining Pin from 5mm music wire to replace the soft Robart one, made a new Spinner cone and back plate. Also rearranged some gear to get the C of G back. Now rotation at takeoff is much better, as is the landing flair. Now i have to sort out the undercarriage doors as the nose door springing is not sufficient to hold them open in flight and they blow in, fowling the leg on retraction. Think i will add a micro servo on each door instead of the springs, still considering this. Also need to add the main gear doors. Have posted two flying videos on you tube, being flights 1 and 5. Weight is 9.5 pounds. You can see in the second video the nose leg hanging down. No problem with a pneumatic system though.
Overall i am very happy with this model. Cheers, Shane ImagesView all Images in thread
