ESC Mounting

Have any of you thought of reversing the direction of the motor mounts, such that the 'extra' area sticks outward from the aircraft - and then mounting your ESC's there (as shown in the attached picture of the RCTimer F1000-M8)?

I guess I'm just thinking that it would be better to have the ESC's out on the arms for these reasons:
  1. They can benefit from the cooling prop wash, and
  2. The heat they generate will not jack with your FC,
  3. It seems there would be less potential for magnetic interference to the compass or FC if the ESC's are mounted out on the arms
  4. It seems that the whole reason to have that 'extra material' on the motor mounts is for mounting ESC's

That said, I'm sure the ESC's in the middle is fine - many people have built that way successfully. I only wonder if mounting them out on the arms is maybe a better idea?

I am enjoying watching these builds. Keep the photos coming!

Foxtech have been great for Tarot parts. They have shipped within an hour or two of my placing an order.

If you plan to mount a gimbal, you are going to want to move your landing gear in. As the prop wash will hit them, and cause you a lot of vibration.
Just my $.02

Oh okay. I didn't think there was enough room in between screws to mount it. I haven't taken my wookong off of my S800 yet so I haven't had a chance to try it.

So far, mine is weighing close to 6 lbs with just the motors installed. Ecalc readings say I'll be able to lift 15 lbs. This thing is gonna be heavy..gonna have to install a shoot system for sure.
