Mission Peak RC Model Sailplane Slope Soaring 2017

All are invited to South Bay Soaring Society’s next program at 7:30pm 3/8/17 at the main Saratoga Fire Station.

The Mission Peak slope soaring hill is SBSS’s longest serving flying site in continuous use. Yet little is known about this site by folks who don’t fly there and it’s unique features that make this a very special place. At the next club meeting Sean will give an introductory presentation to Mission, how to get there, what to bring, when to go flying, what to fly and many other aspects related to soaring at Mission.

The South Bay Soaring Society Program is held every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the main Saratoga Fire Station at 14380 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070. The business meeting starts at 6:30pm and the program begins sometime after 7:30pm. Anyone is welcome to attend either meeting and you can bring friends.

Next Program - Los Banos Scale Soaring Aerotow and Slope Event 2017

All are invited to South Bay Soaring Society’s next program at 7:30pm 4/12/17 at the main Saratoga Fire Station.

The 24th Annual Los Banos scale soaring event will take place at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir State Recreation Area April 22nd and 23rd. Lynsel Miller who been instrumental in this event will be sharing with us images and stories from the many years this event has been happening. He will also share ideas on how to keep Los Banos flying site available for slope flyers in the future.

Scale model sailplane flying is one of the most interesting branches of our hobby, and Lynsel will be able to touch on:
  • Scale models shown at Los Banos
  • What is demonstrated at scale model events
  • How to buy or build your own scale model
  • How does scale modeling differ from other sailplane events
  • How to launch and fly large scale sailplanes

Please join us and hear why this event is the South Bay Soaring Society’s highest profile event of the year for past 24 years.

The South Bay Soaring Society Program is held every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the main Saratoga Fire Station at 14380 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070. Hi there - Kyle and I are arranging a "simulcast" of Lynsel's upcoming lecture via gotomeeting. Anyone interested in attending via gotomeeting can use the following link: https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/266304245
And use your laptop microphone or call 1-571-317-3122 access code/meeting ID 266-304-245 for the audio.
We will have the gotomeeting available starting around 7:20pm in anticipation of Lynsel starting around 7:30pm. This is the first time we are trying this, so apologies in advance if there are any technical difficulties.

F5J Electric Sailplane Contest, How to Power Up Your Game

All are invited to South Bay Soaring Society’s next program at 7:45pm 6/14/17 at the main Saratoga Fire Station. Also you can join the meeting LIVE via a GoToMeeting Webinar (details below).

F5J is a model sailplane contest which launches using a 30-second electric motor propellor run to complete in 10 minutes tasks. Join Chris Bajorek for a coaching session before SBSS’s next F5J contest being held over July 15 and 16 at Brigantino Park, Hollister, CA. See https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...ino-July-15-16 for details. Chris will cover:
  • How our F5J contests differ from European contests
  • What are the key rules for F5J contests
  • How does F5J contest strategy differ from thermal duration and F3J
  • Why launch lower
  • How do you score a landing
  • How to make your electric glider eligible to compete
  • Advice on motor and battery selection
  • Advice on battery maintenance before and during a contest
  • What can go wrong and how to recover

Chris has been RC soaring and competing since the mid-1990s. On RCGroups he goes by “SoaringDude” and started the Electric Competition Soaring-F5J/ALES/e-Soaring thread at https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...is-on-for-2017. Recently Chris ran a series of F5J contests for the Sacramento Valley Soaring Society (SVSS) and established the f5j-usa.com Website. Chris has also been the chairman of the F5J-USA advisory group and you can see their contest calendar at http://www.f5j-usa.com/calendar/. Please join us and hear why the South Bay Soaring Society is getting 5FJ fever. If you want to join us via GoToMeeting, go to https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/280560373. For an alternative to listening on your computer, in parallel you can dial for phone audio at +1 (571) 317-3122. The Access Code is 280-560-373. We are limited to 23 attendees so be sure not to be late.

The South Bay Soaring Society Program is held every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the main Saratoga Fire Station at 14380 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA 95070. The business meeting starts at 6:30pm and the program begins sometime after 7:30pm. We will target 7:45pm for Webinar starts. Anyone is welcome to attend either meeting and you can bring friends.
