New events in Flagstaff this Summer, saved the dates

Thought I would let you know about the following event threads that just started in the District X RCG forum:

2013 Beat The Heat: 7/26-28

USRA 2013 Summer Nats Giant Scale Pylon Racing: 6/6-9

For the pylon racing event, we arelooking for help. These events take a number of modelers to help put on. In particular, We need pylon judges. The task of the judge is to follow an assigned airplane and watch to see if the pilot made it past the pylon – or not. We have a very neat electronic scoring system and is all recorded by computer but we still need humans to push a button. We treat ALL the course workers to everything we can think of. We feed them, have all the water, snacks and drinks for them and they are invited to the Saturday night party for free. Our major sponsor is Horizon Hobby and they donate a large number of gifts that are given to the workers. Typically we have many Bind-n-Fly airplanes, receivers and all sorts of gifts. Wives are welcome to help too. Most of our wives volunteer as well.

We also have entry level classes! Our newest and most popular class is Sportsman. It basically allows any airplane and engine/fuel combination over 80” wingspan. The sportsman classes races 4-5 at a time but against a clock. 2:00 is the fastest you can go. Any faster than 2:00 minutes and you get a zero but you don’t want to be last either. The 80” minimum span is so that you can follow them. The pylons are 800’ right and left of the flight stations.

Woo hoo!

I'm definitely in for Beat The Heat as usual!

Would do the pylon event too, but already have a full schedule in June with two big shows in CA (RCX and Western States).

Or maybe not....

What's a guy like you doing with 6mm foam? We all know you can't build big.

Just wanted to bump this back to the top as a reminder to start gearing up for Beat The Heat next month!

I actually get to sleep in a camper this time!

Anyone need to borrow a tent?

Last year was fun alright!
My Girl and I weathered the storm by using a lowered 10x10 as a rain diverter and her Hyundai as a wind-break!
Can't wait to get up there this year.

We may need to bring some float planes this year.
