Hawker Hurricanes

Hello I started this project in 2011 but I had no time and room for modelling till this time. They are not too big planes the wingspan is only 32"

That's a lot of stringers ! How do you straighten them out and what do you use to bond to the foam? Are they wire or thread?

Hi! They are simple garden wires. One end of them are hooked in the foam and a I used white glue to fix them to the plug. I don't worrying about the straighterns cause they are just brakes the surface line of the back of the fuselage and imitates the fabric cover.

I covered the plug with one layer of fiberglass. I covered the plug with one layer of fiberglass. Light sanding and the plug was ready to use. I applied PVA release agent for easy pealing.

Welcome back to the Groups Zsolti. I missed you for some time now. I am happy to see you applying new construction on the Hurricaen once again. I hope you can succeed in the total build and flight with this one. If you need some support with it I can chime in or send a PM Good Luck here. I will be subscribed and a few typings away also.

Thank you Bob! As always this planes building is different than the other of my planes. I try new technics on the frame and wing section but the biggest different is they will make a maiden after the painting this is what I never did before.

Zsolti. Great job. I could not have done any better. Are you planning any spar cuts? Save the outers just in case you need them for line ups. That hot wire cutter looks familiar. I have to go to my shop and see if I still have mine.

haha I nicked your way. I love this bow cheap and cheer full!!
Yes I will! I think the foam is not strong enough without some spars . 6x6 pine for the top and a balsa behind the ailerons all the way long will give plenty of strengths with the fiberglass covering. Any better idea??

You have to use what you have available and on hand. To get specific items that may work may take time to find if needed at certain stages of building. My spars are CF arrow shaft blanks from eBay - sporting goods.. They may not be available there. They are hollow and about 5 mm. Very rigid and light weight. I drove a hot 2 mm rod through my wing and followed with a CF spar. You may be better with the spar you have planned with some polyurethane type glue like Gorrilla white or Elmers. Maybe a hotwire slot. Try to keep any hot wire cuts slightly undersize for a snug fit. I have also made slots using a Dremel with a router attachment to make slots with a straight edge. Hope this has some help in it.

I worked on the tail section of the second plane. The first one is ready to build in I made it long time ago. the second one will be more simple I will not make it as scale like.

I worked on the ailerons today. I made a jig for it and it was useful when I cut the "flaps" off the foam and when I had to found and mark the positions of the hinges.I used pivot and round hinges for the scale style which made a little head ache cos I had no idea how can i set them up in line. A little time later I found the solution . I screwed two little screws in the balsa and when I pushed the two parts together again the head of the screws made a indenture and mark the position of the other side. I'm happy with the result but i will use a simple hinges on the second wing.

You are progressing along at a good pace. I guess you are going to be flying early this year. Nice.
